lemon and lime visit the dunes

yesterday i made up a breakfast of frozen blueberries, grated ginger, pistachios, sesame seeds and lemon juice.  i had the same thing today but did chopped ginger and switched in pumpkin seeds for sesame seeds and pistachios, and lime for lemon.  mireya says in mexico they don't differ between limes and lemons.  this confuses me.

i did two batches of dishes.  must i always report these mundane details? yes i must.  i felt like making bread and i had some of that coveted, covid gold--yeast.  so i made two loaves.  i stuffed them with grated parmesan and chopped up herbs.  which herbs??  i'll tell you.  some of single jurassic green onion katie gave me, some of my own porch basil, parsley from the fridge, and katie's rosemary.  let the origin of every herb be known.  the method i used was this.  you roll out the dough, and top it with your herbs n cheese.  since parm is a dry cheese you give it a lil smear of butter too.  i also added a shakey shake of garlic powder.  then you roll it up like a cinnamon bun.  you aren't done so don't think that you are..  you then slice your log down the middle and twist the two half logs into an amorous embrace and pop it in the loaf pan.  i was quite pleased and proud of my 2 cheesy herby twisty loaves.  i ate most of the smaller one last night for dinner, warm with melted butter on it.

i spent the rest of my time editing photos and listening to podcasts into the dark of the night and the rise of the bright moon. i finished april 26, 2020.  here's a few more of them:

giant crack of earth and tiny humans.  "...now, for this cause i know that man is nothing, which thing i never had supposed."--moses 1:10

after having our fill at kasha-katuwe national monument we drove down to southern new mexico to what became our favourite camping spot of our whole trip.  it was amazing actually because when i booked the site it just showed a picture of  a barren camping plot and i thought, 'oh well we're just sleeping there."  but to our surprise it was the most gorgeous site, situated at the base of the sacramento mountains over looking the tula rosa basin.  being literally at the base of the mountains we were up higher and had a view of the vast basin.  there were no trees because we were in the chihuahuan desert but there were tiny palms and cacti and strange and wonderful desert vegetation. we got there just before the sun was setting and we had that familiar feeling of giddy awe at the amazing scenery we were somehow blessed enough to find ourselves.

heather fumfering in the car before we climbed in for the night.

now i'm working on april 27, 2019.  that's the day we explored that other worldly place which is white sands national monument.  white sands is the world's largest gypsum sand dunes.  we went there in the late morning and explored for a while.  we walked  on some boardwalks over the sand and saw some lizards.  then we climbed a big dune.  heather who had a bum knee and was not up for a lot of dune hiking, situated herself on the top with a good view an umbrella for shade and some good reading.  i ventured off a little bit.

i took some pics and explored a bit.  it was an oven and the white sand was blinding in the blazing sun.  i also realized that in that light it was hard to differentiate between the dunes.  after playing around a bit i joined heather on her perch.  we lay in the sand for a while talking.  we decided to go into town for lunch and come back for the golden hour/sunset.

that sky is my favourite colour of blue.  heather was wearing a bright yellow top that day and i was wearing bright green.  we were lemon and lime.

heather treated me to lunch for my birthday. we decided on a mexican restuarant.  we had tall glasses of refreshing horchata with free refills which made us laugh because we had purchased a small cup of $11 horchata in santa fe two days before.  for my special lunch on the day i turned 45 i chose this crazy torta that had just about everything you could imagine in it.

heather really wanted to buy her own tortilla press and she asked at the restuarant if they knew where to find one.  a really nice lady who worked there went out of her way to drive in front of us to show us the way to...i think it was walmart, lol.  but there was no press there.  heather never found one at any time on our whole trip in the south west but ironically found one at lonsdale quay, her own back yard, when we got back.

anywho, that's enough memory lane today.

You have had so so many fun adventures. And they are so well documented you really must write some books someday. But don't you mean April 2019? April 2020 you have a social distance birthday in Heathers backyard didn't Mew?
