snow day 2--confessions
1. the photos from my last post. how embarrassing. i totally edited them super fast so i could post them on the sunday and they wouldn't interfere with my regular editing job of the week day, i.e. amy's wedding, and i failed to notice that they posted way darker than intended. and so every photo looks the same. pretty funny actually...oh this photo is of this dog...darkness... and this photo of this tree...darkness...lol. oh well. it will have to remain so because i have no time to fix it.
2. i am eschewing pants today. don't ask me why, i just don't want to wear them. so i'm slumming in my 'grow a pair' (ovaries), too short t-shirt and my heavy warm mustard sweater and bare legs. this doesn't make my life easy because my floor is icy and the general 'heat challenged' air in my house is near frigid temperatures so this limits me to my bed, or the love seat piled high with blankets and short trips to the kitchen for food and to the bathroom for ...erm...business.
3. last night i had about 10 photos left to do on amy's bridal party pics and i was starving. i also had an inexplicable craving for ice cream. wait. i always have that craving. but i was so close to finishing and i didn't want to stop until i was done. but the hunger gnawed at me. but i was so close. so i made myself a deal. "finish these first and you shall have ice cream" i promised. so i did. and while they were uploading the world wide web i was brushing a mountain of snow off of sahib and dumping snow in my lap accidentally and driving very slowly to my neighbourhood macs. once in the parking lot...the only vehicle there, i brushed more of the deep snow off of my hood. at one point i paused to peer into the store, suddenly unsure of whether they were open or not, and peering back at me was the mac's clerk looking very perplexed by my actions. eventually i went in and gathered the following nutritious and important ingredients:
a)a giant bean and cheese burrito (i just had it for lunch)
b) dulce de leche ice cream
c) a cup of sour candies
d)a small bag of mrs vickies salt and vinegar chips
e)3 taquitos
i reached my hand towards the snickers bar but decided against it. best be moderate in our choices.
4. an important milestone has been reached. i realized the other day upon opening my fridge, that one of the cartons of eggs had reached it's one year expiring date anniversary. yes. feb 4 2018 was when those eggs expired. the truth is i cannot face them. and now...now it seems as though i should see how far these eggs and i can go. wish us luck.
well i think that's been quite enough of my 'revelations' for now. just know these are the ones i picked to share. you get me? more horrors may or may not lurk. be just a little terrified. i know i am.
i leave you with some pics of my new year's day documentation of the polar bear swim at deep cove. there's no heather in these because we were separated. she was on a good viewing perch to the right and i was to the left on a bolder right at the edge of the water and right in the thick of things.
and people watching from their boats.
here goes our life guard...out to his watery post. some people swim out quite deep and the life guard keeps watch over them.
the police were there too.
soon the small beach started filling up. in this one pic you can see the white wigged mom and the mullet/faux hawk/rat's tail? son in finish jerseys, a lady in a card board out fit and a garbage can lid, but don't miss the lady in a clear plastic poncho with a far away stoic look on her face. don't miss that.
a youth tests the water. i'm guessing his environmental feedback registered as 'cold' on his finger.
the water teases the rat-tailed boy in crocs.
this girl is saying something with her eyes to the orange towelled lady.
ok. is the flower capped human a boy or a girl? i go back and forth with myself about it. my first instinct was girl, but is that only because of the flowers? on a polar bear swim day, everything may be topsy turvy.
the bundled up little girl is what caught my interest. she got chills, they're multiplyin'... she don't look like she about to plunge.there's all sorts of quirky peoples in all sorts of outfits. all sorts of ages and body shapes. but look at that girl with the golden water bottle, and big pom pom toque. how she so stylish? how she so polar swim trendy?? some people just have it i guess. other people wear sun dresses and orca hats. it doesn't matter. what matters is living life to the fullest. what matters is FUN.
a large group of bath-robed people have begun thronging around me. style girl is having instagrammable moments in the distance.
these next are just to show how closely i am thronged. their steamy body heat was literally keeping me warm. well warmish. i was sitting on cold stone for over an hour.
in the chaos, a hand clutches a mitten, bathrobed people abound and a girl in a star head band is stripping down to her polar dip attire.
at least 3 people are using their phones in this exact moment. can you find them. also the lady with all the buttons on her robe needs glasses. you can tell by the way she is looking at her phone while she texts.
the wall of people behind on the rocks, watching.
people are all stripping down to their suits. this mom tries in vain to warm up her girl while hugging her with her skinny arms.
this gonna happen. this is going down... bathrobes are no more...
and they're off! i totally got splashed.
the euphoria...
the selfies...
the...odd bellybuttons. what happened? i need to know the story of this bellybutton.
oh yeah, una was there and i didn't know i had taken a photo of her until after. luckily she was by the bananas in pajamas.
oh and there's her brother.
this paddle boarder apparently was doing hand stands and tricks to the crowd. i didn't see it but heather did and she scorned him. i actually had some shots of him doing it in the background but they weren't good otherwise so i didn't include them.
crazy people make life more interesting.
