i feel like it's been so long since i've written anything. oh wait, it has. i have so much i could share about this past month, especially my wonderful birthday trip. but i don't have time for that today. so today i will just write about today and that shall be good enough.
this morning as i was trying to mold myself into something presentable for church, evan called. "do you want to come over for dinner tonight?" he asked. naturally i was in. he told me two key bits of information. 1. could i bring the dessert (technically this is a question) and 2. jord and trace would be there by 3:30. "you are asking me to do the dessert today? on sunday??" i asked (technically this was an accusation) "yes." he said (technically he was making no excuses for himself). i did a quick mental scan of the contents of my fridge and cupboards. it was quick because there wasn't much to go through--as usual. "well i could bring jello..." i mused. we hung up and i went to church.
i had missed 2 weeks and it was nice to be back to my home ward. i sat down and then realized that i forgot to pick up my tithing slip. i had five minutes so i jumped up and headed out to the hall with a purpose. on my way out brother hutchinson handed me a program and declared that the bishop wanted to see me. "i do declare, sister clarke, that the bishop would like to see you!" "little ol me? well fiddlee dee dee." (technically these exact words did not leave our lips, but what if they did? what if suddenly i was in a huge hoop skirt dress durning civil war days and what if i doggedly chased ashley when anyone could see that i passionately loved rhett? what if?)
i stewed over what calling i was going to get all during sacrament meeting. it was actually none of the things i thought. shrug.
it was nice to be with the kids again. i love them. it was also pleasant to grab little fistfulls of cadbury's mini eggs from the primary closet when the kids were engrossed in sharing time and singing time.
when primary was over the young men brought me a pink begonia.
judy, dave and frank were all in the back yard when i rounded the corner of my house. dave gave me a pot for my begonia and judy told me she had a plant for me. now that it's nice out i see them all the time.
inside my home i decided that the jello might be stale. so then i decided on caramel popcorn because i had butter and sugar and corn syrup. but i t turns out i only had a cup of unpoppped pop corn and i didn't think that would be enough. then i decided on rice pudding. i didn't have the vanilla pods but i forged ahead anyways.
i made it with coconut milk and i put some caramalized pineapple in it. i felt it probably wasn't very good most people ate it, so you know--shrug.
i got to ev and esther's at 3:36 it was hours before anyone else arrived. and hours after that that we actually ate. but when we did eat it was delicious. douglas brought a pasta casserole of his own concocting. evan and jord bbqed chicken on the bbq. delish potatoes and a good salad.
after dinner douglas was the focus of much discussion with his work complaints. he got a lot of uncle advice let me tell you. later much heated debating was had but it wasn't, strangely, linguistic based debate. our hot topics were the teacher-strike action issue, then on into schooling itself and last but not least a debate on weather canadians are different culturally than americans, especially those of similar regions as opposed to say southern americans. good times.
now i'm home and i'm sitting on my couch and i'm thinking to myself that this week is the week i'll unpack my suitcase and put away my laundry.

You ARE in a huge hoop skirt, and stop denying your love for rhett. He's going to run out of patience.
