a brain chronically short of oxygen.
another cranky, crabby wednesday come and gone. this wednesday i was particularily tired. tired seems such a measly word for it. i felt angry at being awoken at 5:30 by my relentless alarm clock. i felt fed up and impatient with certain situations. but the whole day wasn't spent under a dark cloud. making a mashed potato snow man after lunch did help me out quite a bit. he had a mini carrot nose. he had sad cranberry bit eyes. he had ground beef buttons and a roast beef scarf. he had a cucmber, grape tomato hat and green pepper strip arms. i ladled cheese sauce around his base and set him out on the counter. one thing i like about my work is that people enjoy things like mashed potato snow men. they join in to find his different needed bits and they smile and remark on him when they see him. not one person thought a mashed potato snow man was dumb or a waste of food, and no one tried to squish him, although cory tried to pay dave to eat him. in my mind this is a wonderful quality of a work place. people join in and make huge tin foil balls out of used tin foil. people don't give you weird looks when you go around wearing tiarras all day. instead they call you a queen and don't mind being corrected that you are in fact a princess. i like it there most of the time, but sometimes i take the goodness of that place for granted. sometimes i wonder if i do any good or do i just make lunch. i hope i do at least a little bit of good.
i've been meaning to mention m' lady dinsmore. every day this week as i drive to work in the fog, i see her take shape and emerge in clear outline hunched on a street light observing. i always say 'hello m' lady' as i pass under her. this after noon she was on the street light on the other side of the street. i think she was waiting for me to greet me again. i don't know why, but it makes me happy to know she's still there and every time i see her i'm glad.
this morning i opened my mouth to take a bite of peanutbutter pancake drizzled lightly with syrup, and instead let out an "ow!". jaw pain. i had to chew softly and slowly. i hope it's just because i chewed so much gum yesterday. i didn't notice it at lunch, so... yep that's a good sign.
lunch was russian chicken, mashed potatoes and steamed broccoli with cheese sauce. i'll tell you what russian chicken is because i know this is what katie expects. :) it's a very yummy and simple chicken dish. you mix together, russian salad dressing, cranberry sauce and onion soup mix and you pour it over the chicken, making it quite saucy and you bake it until tender. i like to do it in a casserole dish with tinfoil over top and then i take the foil off for the last bit. i made the mashed potatoes with sour cream, garlic, a few handfulls of cheddar cheese and poured in a little sauce for good measure. sure it was pink with orange swirls but it was good, and that's all that matters.
lisa sent me home at 3:30 today because everything was done, she was feeling magnanimous, aaaaaaaaand i was yawning and tearing uncontrollably.
we watched because of winn dixey. i'm proud of myself for finally watching it and i liked it too, of course.
it's 8:30 and thus safe to go to bed.
night.
