i heart simon

olympics! wow, simon whitfield! what he did was amazing. he's definitely one of my favourite athletes. hey beet, he has a daughter named pk! watching the olympians is so inspiring and fills me with a desire for change in myself. i admire so much the supreme effort, the faith that it takes to go on and give it your all and to not give up, the way they dig deep and find something they didn't know was inside of them, and all the hard, hard, hard work and dedication it takes to achieve such excellence. i wish i had something to put my whole heart into like that. i wish i had it in myself to achieve excellence. then yesterday i spent all afternoon listening to truman g. madsen talk about the lives of the prophets. they inspired me too. similar actually, except their excellence is in their lives, and their characters and their service. i find myself feeling restless with my own life.

anyways i just plucked my eyebrows. the weird thing i've found about my particular eyebrows is that my left eyebrow is way more sensitive than my right. when i pluck the left i sneeze a bilion times and my eyes tear up and i scrunch my nose and i have to stop for violent sneezes and nose blowing. it's weird. that's all i'm saying.

last night heather and i went for a walk out on the jetty at iona. at one point i looked at her and her wispy hairs were all standing straight up on her head. she noticed the same thing about me at the same time. we laughed and pointed at each other and me, fearing a strike of lightning, (with my luck it could happen), said "oook, let's turn around now." on the way back we passed an older balding man. his hair was standing straight up too and i mentioned something to him about it and commented on the electricity in the air. to my dismay, he said "you mean because it's so windy?", like i was commenting on the wind standing his hair up--like it was a balding comment. but eventually, and probably when he noticed our hair standing up, i got across to him what i was saying. on the way back the smell of the sewage treatment plant overwhelmed us. we drove away basically holding our breaths. heather was dizgusted by having 'raw sewage' air particles in her mouth. "it's treated!" i repeated to her. she gave me the 'you know what i mean' look. we stopped at an area of the fraser where there are lots of log jams. it's the fraser on one side of the road and the ocean on the other. it smelled clean like cedar and we sat on a log in the mist of golden rod and wild pink flowers and talked. it was so pretty that i hated to leave but i was too thirsty to stay long.

i was thirsty because i had earlier made the grossest sandwich i've made in years. it may be grosser than the peanut butter and mustard sandwich i made when i was little. i was talking to karey on the phone at the time and at first i tried to ignore the grossness, stuffing the first sandwich down. but during the second sandwich i couldn't deny the urge to wretch so i did something drastic--i threw it away and made barfing noises on the phone to karey, and quickly ate something sweet to get the horrid taste off my tongue.
