a goddess of a bun
first day of training. it was ok. a lot of intro stuff. but in the last half we looked at a self-study and as a group talked about what questions we might want to pose to the clubhouse we are visiting from what they put in their self-study. that felt like the start of our actual training. our only assignment was to contact the clubhouse we will visit for our mock visit. so that was easy. i think tomorrow will be more interactive.
bethany and i had a hot chocolate rendezvous planned. after our first disappointment with the one at union market that was over by the time we were ready to go there, it took us some time to settle on a new location, flavour-treat combo. finally we decided on chez nous. it had a big pastry served on top and was quite popular. mom declined to join us. she's anti-hot-choc. so we drove to yale town, parked and walked into chez nous. the first thing bethany clocked was a glorious looking queen called "biscoff bun". i took in a sharp breath and gazed at it with lovey eyes. "want to share it?" asked biff in reverential tones. did i! but when we got to the counter we learned from the very nice miss that the hot-choc we wanted WAS ALSO DISCONTINUED. it was replaced by a meh white hot-choc with a coissant. double meh. we looked at each other. and removed ourself from the line to discuss. we quickly agreed that the white meh was not worth our $$ or our tastebuds but we would like very much to indulge in the grand lady, her worship, biscott bun. so that's what we did. biff's treat.
we got it to go and retreated with our regal duchess of all buns to the car to regroup. then quite simply we devoured her. every morsel. i was still licking my fingers of biscoff schmear as biff was looking up other places. we agreed on a place that had a sticky date cake as the side piece. the hawt-chawk was supposed to have date in it too. it was on west broadway. so off we went. i had a problem with the idiotic app pay by phone. so troublesome. so i simply didn't pay. and i got a ticket. anyone could have predicted that outcome but i did not. but back to our gluttony. the sticky toffee date cake was a tender caramel morsel of delight. but the haut-chalk was pretty plain. normal even. 3adi, as they say in egypt about the pyramids (not 3adi at all, but it was said to me and i have been perpetually amused by it. (3adi means normal, regular, usual...etc)). but the sublime date cake in a buttery pool of caramel made up for the blandness of the hot-choc. we agreed on this sentiment.
biff and i had some discussions in the car. biff is good about saying "i understand that you might cherish the sticky caramel ooze of a cinnamon bun but i personally prefer it as a vehicle for cream cheese icing." she's good about that.
