#toolegitauntcamp2020--day 3 --the epic film
i woke up at 3am and did not go back to sleep. the curse of a single nostril breather. that's all you need to know. i spent my time day dreaming and squeezing squish until it was light. then i had some scripture study before contorting myself out the side door and onto land. it was a cool cloudy morning. i forgot the garbage bag outside and not even the crows had bothered with it. lucky.
i taped some of the tent talk before the kids emerged from their tent. adriel made his proverbial bacon and jane made what pancakes there were left. there was a lot of smack talk. and i was like i need a break from you guys.
i forgot to say that the night before sloan shared his scripture which he insisted was very meaningful to him. it was about curses. or was it this morning? i can't remember. but anyways he's cute.
we did clean up. i was coming back from the outhouse when i had an idea. adriel was just going into his tent to have a nap. "no! i have an idea! " and so i shared my idea and it was to make a film. we gathered together at the games table with some snacks. jane's peanut butter trail mix and the chex mix were definately there. we started brainstorming our film while i gave jane one dutch braid and one french braid. then it started to rain so we took our snacks into the car. adriel and i lay in the back and jane and sloan in the front. jane fed me trail mix out of one of my shells for a bowl. jane kept the notes. what we came up with was a film with many stories of different genres all intersecting together.
there was the romantic comedy--jane is being wooed by quintuplets who are all identical (played by adriel) but with different hair dos except the 5th who was sloan.
the trajedy--the story of me and man tracker (adriel)
the horror--sloan was a forest monster..not much plot to that one.
the mystery--snack tracker (jane) solving the mystery of the stolen snacks by shades (sloan)
the documentary--already filmed going to the beach
it stopped raining and we started filming. i was the director. adriel sloan and jane all did some filming depending on the scene. we came up with the stories and the scenes as we went, more were birthed. we had so much fun doing it and spent most of the day on the different scenes. sloan was passionate and commanding. there were ideas flying and so many laughs. i can't wait until adriel puts it all together.
at some point in the filming we were in the woods and there was a fat black slug and jane was cruel to it. i have a soft spot for slugs and came to it's rescue.
at one point we had to break to recharge adriel's phone so we played skipbo. this time we added 2=ugly face (that was super hard to maintain), and if 2 people had the same number those people had to hold hands until one number changed, and at the end we started 'sneak attack' where it was a free for all if you were fast enough you could sneak your cards from your pile in while someone else was playing. the whole time we were gobbling snacks and no one was hungry for lunch. so we filmed some more.
the sun came out and all rejoiced. we decided to go to the other beach at the day use area. i got changed into my swimsuit which was still wet because nothing dried in our camp the whole time, and we drove just the little ways down the road to the china beach day area. all the kids were laying in the back 'not' messing up my bed. i was heartened to see that you travel downwards for a while before getting to the parking lot. i knew the walk would be shorter. and it was. but my knee was super sore and i had to go very slow. adriel who was still on his bare foot challenge stayed with me. we took tiny steps. there wasn't as many stairs but there was a lot of down hill which was painful. adriel and i already had a thing. when getting up from the picnic table and swinging my legs out i would use his head or his shoulder as a support and then i would say "my child". and we would laugh. well on this walk i used his shoulder for big steps down and then i would squeeze it and say \"my child". i told him about uncle evan and the rs shoulder squeezes. we also made up a story about me and man tracker when we got to this bridge that was kind of bouncy where it shouldn't have been and i thought i wonder if it is rotting and then i thought if i fell through and it became a shoot sending me hurtling down over a cliff but man tracker is surfing and catches me, placing me gently on the tip of his surf board brings me to shore but i fainted and didn't realize it was him and just as we got to shore a big wave knocked him over and other people pulled me to safety and i never knew it was him that saved me. haha. that's the story we came up with.
when we finally made it to the bottom jane and sloan had already been in. i must mention that sloan had many sweatshirts but no pants. he brought pants but didn't wear them from the first day. he said they were wet. and he was always asking jane for her red and black checked fuzzy blanket. and she often shared it with him. they were both often seen with the blanket swaddled around them in some way. usually jane had it around her shoulders and sloan tucked it around his waist. also i must say that sloan has this special trick. "who's shirt is this?" "it's not mine it's adriel's" then adriel yells "sloan you brought that shirt!". he quick on the technicalities. haha. ok. i digress. jane had a spot that looked nifty down the beach by a big jutting log, or swoopy tree. but i was like "sloan tell jane i can't walk down the beach that far" i was not risking a knee wrench. my sore knee was already like woah, why are you doing this to me?? i found a log near by and we set up by it. but then this couple at a better log left and we went there. that's important.
so adriel jane and i eagerly went forth to partake of the waters. sloan came up slightly behind me to the right just at the unfortunate time that i stepped on something sharp and flung my arms out, backhanding him. he retreated to the log to nurse his wound and could not be persuaded from there, so i rejoined the others. we had so much fun. the water was of course icy but there were no huge bolder surprises. we tackled each other and did synchronized swims. sloan almost joined us but we did not sufficiently meet his criteria of shallowness at the moment his toe touched the water. eventually we could not feel our bodies. adriel and i decided to bop down to the end of the beach to see the cave and we did so. adriel kept saying "|the waves are getting progressively bigger." i noticed no such thing. when we got closer we realized that the cave was not in fact a cave. but adriel finally caught a big wave and all was happiness.
when we got out of the water it was windy and cold. i felt like it might be warm if i lay myself on a pile of rocks and shells. but it was not very comfy and i was more of a beached whale. however i found a pure white stone and gave it to adriel "keep this forever or you don't love me." bringing this practice into the new generation. sarah knows. adriel accepted the rock and periodically would fish it out of his pocked and i would say "always" "always" he would repeat. and our eyes would squelch at each other knowingly. yes eyes can squelch.
everyone got dressed fast. adriel won the right to jane's blanket much to sloan's dismay. we were cold. sloan and jane went off ahead and so did adriel but not for long. he was my companion up. up was considerably easier except the one really big step with hurt my knee so much that i squished and scrunched adriel in return. i often did this kind of thing to him and sloan. hit them and say that's for sloan or that's for adriel. it's fun.
adriel was farting up the trail. although he had stood on many stumps around camp and peed into the forest, he had not as yet pooped. he confessed an aversion to outhouses. i told him how great the camp ones were. he seemed to doubt me. but when we got to the top of the trail he decided to try out the one there. he came out right away. too gross. i again entreated him to use the one in camp.
when i turned into the parking lot i saw sloan standing on the roof of my car. wildings. wonderful wildings. back at camp adriel experiences the joy of our outhouse and comes out knowing the world is ok. our neighbour the cowboy (dubbed so by jane) is sitting on the road in the sun spots soaking up the rays. we are tired but finish filming our final scenes. i have a vague memory of us all hanging out in the car again. earlier in the day i introduced them to tongue wars and people may have been licking their hands and swiping it on people. jane kept saying she was going to go die in a hole. then she got out of the car and ran to the hole in the woods and filmed herself dying. then she ran through the woods and stood on a high bank and lifted her leg straight in the air. we took pics. then she ran off into the woods.
then adriel has a nap and i start making my pasta dinner. since we only snacked for luch we were all ravenous. sloan and jane helped me but also drove me very very very crazy. until i yelled at them to leave, get out shoo! and they departed. they had all this energy and they employed it in bugging and buzzing and fiddling and at that moment i could not partake of it.
the pasta hit the spot. mine anyways. adriel got up a little grumpy from his napsies. the garlic bread was not super garlicky but was a tiny bit spicy. after supper while i was doing the dish-dish jane and sloan were trying to light the fire again. i had hidden the fire starters on them before because they were lighting everything. jane showing sloan how she could light the hair on her arm, sloan not listening to me because it was 'his' fire stick. i hid it. and i did not tell where. but they found my other ones and went about trying to start a fire. not really much luck except lighting up some bacon grease paper towels. we did have a lot of smoke.
it was adriel's turn to scripture share. he wanted to share a certain scripture but didn't know where it was but luckily i do know these things. he shared 2nephi 31:20 about enduring to the end. i pointed out the enduring to the end wasn't about being perfect until the end but continually repenting and turning to God. i used to really not get that. then we sat around the smoky fire pit and gave out 'awards'. "award to so and so for...such n such" ...i can't remember what any of them were. we just spontaneously came up with them. we ate the chicago mix popcorn. i don't know if it was this night or another night but jane did a great impression of my with my knees. i tried this game with them...the one we made up at the family reunion at golden ears. where you conduct people's movements? like a symphony? it was kind of a fizzle and then adriel was handing sloan the stick and sloan scraped his finger and the camp lit on fire from his rage. that was basically the end of that. after a group hug everyone went to bed.
