peaceful

it's the night of easter sunday.  the sun has set and the pinky peach is just hanging on to the edges of the sky.  the light is fading.  i feel peaceful.

i seemed to have turned some sort of isolation corner.  i think it's thanks 1st to general conference and the way it gets me back on track.  and 2nd to the birth of a creative project.  i only have a few pages left in my scripture study notebook.  so i decided to make one.  i looked up some tutorials and found out that making a book is pretty simple.  i had almost all the 'ingredients' already.  a couple of years ago when the church was getting rid of their gospel art posters...you know the ones mounted on big cardboard?  well i kept some.  i thought i could do something with the young women--a game or something.

i used the one of jesus visiting the nephites as my first cover. i set up on the dining room table and started cutting paper.  it's so fun to get immersed in a project. after measuring and cutting the paper and then trimming it again and cutting out the cover, i had to go to michaels to buy glue to bind the sping.  it took me a long time to find the right glue.  the store was closing and i still didn't now which glue to choose.  luckily a worker came by and steered me in the right direction.

i applied the glue to the spin and set it under a stack of all my heaviest books--6 in total.  i gave it 4 coats.  in the morning i had a book.  then i had to add the cover.  i needed paper for the inside cover but had none long enough so i glued some wrapping paper on to some regular paper an used that.  i glued them on but unfortunately put the back cover on upside down but the glue dries so fast nothing could be done but chalk it up to newbie mistakes.

i'm already starting on 2 more books.

on satuday i met up with heather.  we took very special care to always stay 2 meters apart.  i even had her climb in sahib through the back hatch to the very back seat.  i had a stool for her and everything.  we got our picnic food at mcdonald's.  everyone else had the very same idea. we were in a super long line up but i didn't mind.  my window was down, the sun was shining and it was a beautiful day.

we drove to ambleside, found a parking spot and i made sure to take video of heather emerging from sahib's tail end.  we found spots 2 meters away from each other by a long log on the beach.  it was super windy.  eventually i had to wrap my sleeping bag around my shoulders.  we ate our burgers, had our chocolate shakes and watched people.  all the people on the beach were very good about staying away from each other.  we especially liked watching a mom and her two kids fly some kites.  one of the kites was a long colourful serpent looking one.  it looked like it was swimming in the sky.  there's something so fun and romantic looking about flying a kite.  i still want to experience it for real.  maybe i'll get a serpent kite for my birthday.

after a while it was too cold so we got up to go.  the wind was so strong that i didn't need to hold the sleeping bag around me. i bragged about this to heather and then promptly stepped on the corner of it dragging in the sand and tumbled over backwards an obliging bilge of drift sticks breaking my fall.  what to do but laugh of the spectacle one makes of oneself.

this morning we had an easter program on zoom.  i joined wet hair-ed but lipsticked and flower gowned, just as they were singing the final verse of he is risen.  bro hutchinson and bro deyell were the speakers. evelyn did a lovely piano piece of 'our saviour's love'.  it was nice.  it was sometimes amusing to see what some people did while listening.  particularly sister townsend who walked around and lay down on the couch and pressed her eyebrows back, etc.

i spent the afternoon watching cute movies about dogs on disney plus while working on books.  i also made potatoes au gratin and glazed ham for my easter dinner.  i almost forgot but i made it to the stake youth fireside in time to see caroline deliver a beautiful, spiritually mature message.  she's so grown up. i can't stand it.

one more day of this long weekend.  i've actually enjoyed it.  what new isolation adventures will tomorrow hold?

Reading your blogs is such a nice way to spend quarantine :) What do your books look like? How big are they? Your pictures of Turkey always stun me. You capture a hidden feeling so well. I am struggling to find the right word to communicate what I mean... It looks so pretty and warm there. It was nice to hear about your very peaceful and Spirit filled Easter.
