a state of fluxxedness

i'm chilled.  i can thank my mango pineapple lime ginger smoothie for that.  that and my state of undress.  so i have dressed myself with my bed and i'm waiting for it to kick in. i have really been digging the smoothies lately. you know sometimes a frozen fruit smoothie can have pale watery flavour...with the exception of banana smoothies.  i have made the discovery that adding lemon, lime, and or ginger really brighten the flavours.  and adding fresh pineapple helps too.  so now fruit smoothies are really rocking my world.

fatima and i were going to meat for breakfast downtown today but plans changed so instead i'm wearing my bed as it drizzles outside.  i'm not complaining about the weather.  i was just thinking yesterday that we've pretty much had the perfect winter.  mild.  lots of rain.  mild.  that's what i like.  and i like it when february is the start of spring.  that's right to me.

two important things have happened in february so far.  first is that we published our new re-envisioned news magazine at work.  it was one of the things that i was excited to modernize when i took this position.  so creating it and seeing it come to pass was special.  if you want to see a pdf version of it you can by clicking here.  one of the hardest things seemed to be choosing a name.  we talked about a lot of things but nothing seemed quite right and i was thinking i was going to have to publish it without a name until one day my friend and member karim was looking at it with me and he said "why don't you just call it News and Views" and it just seemed right and everyone who heard it liked it, so we went with it.  sometimes it's just like that.

the other important february happening is that i had martha over for a birthday weekend visit.  she bussed to surrey center and i took some overtime and left work a bit early and met her there. then we drove to guilford.  martha wanted to buy herself some rings that she saw at torrid.  i browsed the store while she did some considerations and in the end she picked out some pretty gold rings that had opalish stones.  on the way home i accidentally went the wrong way on 104th and ended up on the freeway so we drove home that old way and we decided to stop at queensborourgh landing and look at the gap and old navy outlets.  at the gap there was this hot pink super fluffy and super soft hoodie that i lusted after.  but when i tried it on i discovered that it was more of a crop top hoodie which was sad.  but i found happiness again at old navy when i found a tshirt that said oh pho sho with one of the o's being a big bowl of pho.  it was a men's shirt and naturally i bought it.

martha wanted potstickers for dinner so we stopped at save on and bought some as well as some other groceries to keep our weekend full of fab foods.  that night we had potstickers and my super yummy freshy fresh slaw which martha really liked and that was gratifying.  then we climbed into big bed, propped up with pillows and each with our own haagen daaz, me banana peanut butter chip and her cookies and cream, and watched never been kissed.  this turned out to be martha's favourite part of the weekend haha.

next morning i made us cherry lemon smoothies with a handful of walnuts and pomegranate seeds tossed on top and warmed up a cinnamon bun each.  that was our breakfast. then we got ready and drove down town.  we parked on robson near denman and paid for parking and then walked down to the corner of denman and georgia to the famous spokes and rented two 7 speed cruisers and rode around stanley park.  it was so fun.  this was my favourite part.  i miss bike riding.  we periodically stopped and took pictures and sat and looked at the scenery.  it was a sunny mild day and lots of people were out.  activities like this fill me with joy and well-being.  it took us approximately an hour and a half.

next we looked for a thai restaurant.  martha has a new love for pad thai and i can only encourage such a proclivity.  so we found a bob like thai food on our route home. i successfully parallel parked sahib on west broadway and we filled the greedy meter with our last coins...about 5 dollars and walked down to the corner only to find out that location of bob's was permanently closed!  we felt totally jipped.  martha was ready to concede to eat at a chinese place that was right there, but i was like no.  it must be thai.  so then we drove to the main street bob likes thai food and i parked quite far away but it was free.  we had a nice walk in the sunshine looking at all the cool heritage houses and imagining which ones would be ours.

martha got pad thai and i got bacon wrapped lychee and those flavour bites from nothern thailand, miang kham and beef salad.  i was looking for that duck curry with lychee in it but didn't see it available for lunch so i decided to go with the beef salad.  the salad was good but suuuuper spicy even though i avoided most of the chili slices.  martha was totally stuffed with her pad thai sans tofu.

we had potstickers and freshy fresh for dinner again.  that night we went out for thick toast and bubble tea at memory corner.  martha had never had bubble tea before.  they were out of pearl at memory corner so she had coconut meat instead and her flavour was peach.  i got lychee.  yes i have a thing for lychee.  both of ours tasted super...juicy if you know what i mean.

after that we watched 10 things i hate about you in big bed.

i got up early to prepare my yw lesson and get ready for ward council where i also gave the spiritual thought.  in ward council the bishop asked us to listen for promptings this week and to follow every prompting.  i've been trying to do that.  one thing i love about richmond ward is how warm and welcoming they are.  lots of people were so friendly and nice to martha and that made me feel good.  we stayed for potluck, had our fill and shoved desserts in our mouths on the way out the door.

we had some nice sunday afternoon naps and then had chili and garlic cheese buns for dinner.  we played games.  we played up and down the river.  martha beat me bad.  we played skip bo.  it was very close and i was ahead most of the time but in the end martha beat me.  we played phase 10.  marth won.  we played fraggle rock uno.  martha won.  she won every.single. game.  she said it was because it was her birthday weekend.

the next morning i made us peanut butter banana and blueberry smoothies and we had cinnamon buns and i took martha to the sky train and i was off to work.  that was our weekend.

this week i struck my team with another of my ideas.  the idea is this: let's do a newscast every single day...monday to fri that is.  newscast is something that has been played around with.  there has been some attempt to do it weekly but generally that has become a thing that gets pushed to the side and put off.  since i started it noticed that it has been pushed aside every single week and not once was there one made.   so my idea was that we do it every day.  and show it at lunch time.  and the work of making it daily would create urgency and a fun new kind of work in our unit.  suzanne was especially behind me.  so we started doing it.  we managed to do one day and the second day we hit a road block that we couldn't overcome right away and that was that no one knew how to edit video except one member who was always busy doing something else.  so i put the brakes on the newscast until i could get trained on the editing.  but he taught me yesterday and it's pretty easy so we are back on.  we have a youtube channel that we also post those on. and we might post them on instagram.  let's see where this takes us.

that's the kind of thing happening at work.  also on monday when i stayed a bit late there was a flood from the bathroom upstairs.  this is the second time this has happened and we are just about to get our floors changed and a whole set of renos done on my floor from a previous flood.  so i ended up having to stay until 10pm with lisa mcwhinnie as we waited for the plumbers and the restoration guys to be done.  but we had some good talks.

so now the renos are happening down the hall and all the people who worked down there and squished up with us or relocated temporarily upstairs and all is in a state of flux.

meanwhile i still haven't taken my cpap in and my teeth are tender from sleeping with the mouth guard.  also i'm always exhausted because i think i'm not sleeping right.  and by right i mean enough or well.

What a fabulous weekend. You are so totally fun and lovable. Your newscast sounds like a really great idea. You are really making things happen around there, a force to be reckoned with. So glad I'm the one responsible for bringing you into this world. You are definitely one of a kind and inimitable.
