jack o lady
i made it to the gas station only to hop out of sahib face to face with my gas station nemesis. i haven't seen him in a long time. i don't actually remember why we are gas station arch enemies. i only remember he did me wrong at the superstore gas station. since i don't remember and since it's best to let go of grudges i decided to act cheerful and friendly. nemesis man slowly warmed up and by the end of our interaction he wished me a good day. oh nemesis man, in your little touque and reflector safety vest, with your grudging looks and your unnecessary "you go inside to pay!", you said "have a good day." that means i won. that means we are now gas station polite strangers rather than arch enemies. way to go.
i bought some cool pumpkins. pricesmart has some lovelies. i bought 2 sage green ones and 1 peach one and 1 burnt orange one. the others were normal pumpkins. we made little pizzas on english muffins. we painstakingly cut halloween figures out of sliced mozzarella cheese and even more painstakingly cut up olives for facial features on the ghosts, jack o lanterns, bats and witches. after a while i thought "i don't want to do this anymore." this part way through a large pan of olive faces with another pan to go. alison started making the cheese scraps into mummy pizzas with olive eyes. in the end i started drawing on the cheese with food dye gel.
i made my plum and goat cheese salad. it was good but we didn't have nuts so it was slightly less good.
pumpkin carving was fun but also challenging. the green and peach pumpkins turned out to be super thick and super hard to get the lids off of. i spent maybe over 10 minutes helping christian get his top off before working on my own top. and he was all in his childish voice "laura how do i carve a pumpkin?" and i was all "christian, you know this kind is harder to carve." "it's ok laura" i carved the peach one. i thought she was so pretty. so i made her a girl. the goal was a pretty girl, but in the end she reminds me of a crusty chain smoking raspy voiced lady. ...which is fine too...
