irish spring rituals

i had a shower yesterday.  congratulate me.  i accept.

lately i've been in the kind of mood where i don't put any product in my hair and i just let it dry on its own.  just go about my life with wet hair like it's normal to go to work fairly dripping with damp shoulders.  shrug.  it's what i feel.  i will honour my hair moods.  by the end of the work day my hair is fully dry and i fluff it out.  yesterday i noticed that i have 2 ringlets hovering an inch or 2 lower than the cloud of frizzy curls above them.  they dangle down my back.  i perversely enjoy it.

yesterday was summer fun day.  everything went very smoothly with the loading up of the 2 vans and everyone made the bus and the bus driver took us on a good route.  i sat beside croatian mladden.  we talked about different natural remedies that are amazing.  like lavender and onion and garlic.  then i borrowed the crossword from his newspaper and had a fun time doing it the rest of the ride.  i do enjoy a good crossword session.

we made good time and were at 2nd beach stanley park before 10am.  everyone piled out and there was general mayhem for half an hour or so as we set up tables with table cloths, taped them down, people had coffee and tim hortons doughnuts, setting up the various stations--the nail polish station, the art station, the bingo, the games table etc.  others spent this time sunning themselves on the low stone bench.  others were throwing a football in the middle of it all.  i had to yell at people to move to a more appropriate throwing place 3 times yesterday.  i think guys have a doofus gene that makes them oblivious to inappropriate places to throw a football.  like no,  not right by a bunch of lounging people.  no.  they needed me to direct them to the exact appropriate spot.  and not just members.  staff too.  doofus gene.

jimmy who drove one of the vans forgot to get ice.  it really irked me.  like more than it should have.  but i slapped him twice with a folded up envelope and felt better.  because the truth is he was very helpful and he went and got the ice and everything was fine.

i was doing the crossword with davidlin when the pizza guy called me.  he was really hard to understand but i made out that he was in the wrong parking lot.  luckily lisa knew where he was by his description and it was just across the street. we met him in the parking lot and set up all the pizzas and the salads, and watermelon and chips...

lunch service went without a hitch.  i had to force ambrosia on some people.  i knew they would like it.  who doesn't like petrolium food products, mini marshmellows, coconut and mandrin oranges?? fair nuff.

after lunch people went on a walk around the seawall, others painted, played games etc, and then there were those of us who were playing whith the water balloon launcher.  colin and i stood on the stone bench and others launched water balloons at us.  they mostly missed but carmen got me square in the chest which was quite satisfying.  then we launched wet sponges at people with buckets who tried to catch them.  then we disintegrated into a big water fight in the which i skipped the trifling water balloons and picked up a whole bin of water and heaved it on caleb who was behind me.  it was very very satisfying.

then i started a game of chinese checkers and got everyone involved. it was a board with marbles where the only colour difference was the stripe inside the marble.  white and green were very difficult to differentiate from each other because the glass of the marbles was green.  i may have said to 4 of the players "this is the game of your people".  did you know about the rule that you can jump more than one hole if there is equal holes on either side of the marble?  crazy moves can be made in that case and it blows my mind.

i messed the game at 2:30 just as it was davidlin's turn.  he gave me quite the look lol.  but it was time to have our group pic and then clean up.  so we did that.  then we waited for our bus.  they were 36 min late because they double booked.  but whatever.

michael wu asked me to sit with him on the bus. so i did and we chatted about many things.  he always says we are twins because we are 3 days apart, same year.  tigers.  he said he doesn't want me to ever get another job.  i said there is no worry of that right now.  he likes to ask me english questions.  yesterday was about the words malice and vicious and the name angel for a guy.  he is very smart with languages.  i think he speaks 7.

i spent some time after we got back procrastinating starting the egg bites for sister's weekend.  i talked to katie. bethany and sarah on the phone and finally around 7 i went to superstore.  i had only 77 dollars in my account so i had my calculator and added up each thing i put in the cart.  luckily it came to 54 dollars. phew! day before pay day!  back at pathways i procrastinated again.  then i started grating and chopping while learning about pastor tacos on netflix.  el pastor tacos are the favourite tacos of mexico city and they came from middle eastern immigrants to mexico! i did not know that.  they roast the meat on a vertical spit just like shawerma meat! of course pork would not have been the original go to for those people, but it became what it became.

i didn't finish the sous vide egg bites unti after 12am.  when i got home i fell into bed and became one with it.  and now...i better get jiggy! i got a lot to do before it's time to leave!
