shine on

i slept in today.  for realz.  i woke up for the last time at 9:30.  i had lots of weird dreams none of which i really remember.  i just remember waking up in the middle of them and thinking "this is a weird dream" and falling back to sleep.  for some reason i feel accomplished when i know that i have dreamed.  like yeah, i did it--i dreamed!

it's a breezy morning.  last night it rained.  i heard it happen.  i was propped up in my usual "back up-bum down-legs up"  position, with very little clothings, the fan on my lap pointed down my legs towards my hot baked potato feet, my lap top resting on the fan, editing eryn's poppy pics and watching the worst witch on netflix.  that's what i was doing.  all the lights were off and it was dark.  the air suddenly cooled and there was a rush of many droplets falling from the sky and i was glad.  listening to the rain in the dark is a lovely thing, i think.

standing in the rain when it's driving sideways, while you are waiting for the bus without an umbrella and you are thinking about what it will do to your hair for the day is less nice.

walking home on warm summer evenings in august in japan in monsoon like big fat drops, the biggest fattest drops that you've ever experienced, the kind that soak you with only a couple of drops, and as you walk you can feel the water sloshing in your runners and the impossible fatness of the drops and your complete drenchedness make you smile a happy smile, and when you get home you create a pool in the door way with your wetness and you see that the colours of your clothes have run into each other--that's just a gift to keep in your heart.

yesterday was our annual softball game that we put on together with the mental health team and a few other mental health organizations.  i gave 4 guys a ride to the park but i had to stop at my place for my blanket and pillow to lay in the shade with.  when i came back out on the porch landing i saw someone with their back to me in the park.  i thought "weird, that looks like carl...but no.  he's in the car."  then as i walked to the car he turned and ran back towards the car.  it was in fact carl.  "sorry laura, " he said in his polish accent, "i just really had to pee.  sorry."  "you peed in the park??" i asked really emphasizing the word park.  he just mumbled more sorries...sorrys? how do you pluralize sorry??  i was all "i would have let you use my washroom..."  lol.  luckily there was no one around.  but really, not the most discreet place to pee.  there were no bushes or anything.  i mean the fact that guys can just whip out their chingchings with ease, makes them the most indiscriminate pee-ers sometimes.  i'm not wrong about this.

lisa sat on my retro sleeping bag with me and so did hope.  hope eventually fell asleep face down, forehead resting on a water bottle.  colin brought some table cloths to lay on, which i did not approve of but i let it slide. more of the group hung out on the table cloths.  dave tried to tickle my feet with a feather.  i barely felt it.  these feet are not for light tickles ok.  they are for the heavy grinding work of bearing this body up and taking it places.  2 little unstructurally sound arched bricks slogging out their existence moving mountains every day and not asking any thanks.  well..thanks feet for all you do.

so far i'm loving the poppy pics.  the colours are rich and eryn is beautiful.  i discovered during editing that the center of the poppy has these violet and magenta splashes.  i didn't notice it at the time of the shoot but the discovery delights me.  we all have a secret special beauty spot deep with in even if we are already showy and beautiful all over.  we have splashes of divinity glowing at our cores.

ps. i put my underwear on in the dark last night.  that's not all.  in the light of day i see that they are inside out.  ha.

Love the shots of Eryn... they are stunning. Really enjoyed your tribute to your feet. Maybe they deserve a photoshoot. As for the indiscriminate pee-es... Well they need to be careful because they can get charged with indecent exposure. I know someone in Williams like who got fired from a city job because a lady from her house spotted him taking a leak. There weren't any bathrooms handy for him.
