when karey was here end of april, beginning of may, oh yeah that's right--my BIRTHDAY (37 years young folks), she was watching this cheese and crackers show all the time on her little pet portable dvd player.  heartlands.  well i'm watching it now too.  totally sucked in to it but at least it wasn't vicki who convinced me to watch it if you know what i mean karey, and i think you do.

i stayed up all night watching it but i could because i worked the social today.  it wasn't my turn but i did it for lisa.  she doesn't really like doing the socials but i do.  i like it.  so i slept in until quarter to 12 or something like that.  barely did anything before work but get ready for work.

today was baking day.  we made fudgy brownies with a peanut butter 'frosting', ie, peanut butter, chocolate and rice krispies.  i think the quote-unquote frosting may be thicker than the brownies.  but we'll just have to accept them for who they are.

i was working the social with my pal lisa m. and i told her i liked her just the way she was and then i started crooning billy joel 'just they way you are' to her.  tender moments aside we made an awesome summer-time meal--pesto chicken salad sandwiches in kaiser buns (pesto, parm, feta, lemon juice, mayo and craisins), fruit salad (doesn't watermelon smell like a fresh blue lake just as you're tip toeing in?) and roasted potato salad--it's only the best potato salad evah.  let me tell you about it.  you cut up bacon and fry it in a pan with some water, then you toss your baby potatoes (supposed to be russet but i didn't use russet) in the bacon grease and salt and pepper and roast them in the oven.  then all you do after they are cooled--toss in some old fashioned grainy dijon, mayo, pickles and i put in green onion too.  it's a michael smith recipe and it.is.good.

i had seconds of fruit and potato salads.  please note that each item of the meal is salad related.  please also note that i was so full i had to be rolled out the door.  we used paper plates because we're lazy and it's summer time and a summer meal.

so we went to garry point for ice cream and bocce ball.  one of the guys i was driving spent the whole trip telling me about how he has the second sight and how he has deja vu 24/7.  "most people just have it a couple of minutes and it freaks them out.  i have it 24/7!", he boasted.   "trippy." i agreed.

lisa and i were very excited about the ice cream especially when we realized that you could get two different flavours even though it was a small.  i got coconut and hazelnut.  she got coconut and hedgehog. i know--not much different.  we were estatic and almost in a fanatical fervor about the coconut and then we laughed at ourselves.  we played bocce and lost badly to the boys.  whatevs.

last night i was so thirsty i ate all the rest of my welch's freezies, which may or may not have been 6.  don't judge me palies.

Michael Smith is my favourite chef. I'll have to try that recipe out.

I started watching Heartland on Netflix but didn't get very far. But if you say it's worth it I'll give it another go...

thats hilarious because I started watching heartland one night when Kyle was working late and I found it on netflicks. It's good. I thought the twins would like it since it's about horses.

I love summer and the meals therein! Your summer-time meal on paper plates sounds lovely.

hehe, I've seen the previews for heartland! That's funny that karey got you sucked into it.
