fudgey-wudgey was a bear. fudgey wudgey didn't care...

as i was maneuvering the cargo van through vancouver traffic at twilight i felt free and full of thankfulness. i felt joy. i was driving to ubc to drop off the last part of my application.  the feeling of being done flooded over me and i was almost drowning in triumph over self.  i was grateful for the struggle--for the fight.  i thanked God for being there and sending me the exact kind of help i needed.  i wanted to giggle and shout.  i beamed alone in the drafty cargo van.

i parked illegally with confidence, right by the scarfe building and this year i located the hidden 5th floor elevators with ease.  just like last year the grad advisor was there in her office and accepted my supplimental yadda yadda as a matter of course.  she looked much like last year--the top of her head all spiky and short, the rest long.  it was longer this year.  her cheeks had the same greasy vaselined look.  i smiled like a clown as i waited for the elevator to come back down and then cheerfully discussed plummeting to our deaths with a fellow elevator passenger.

i waltzed out to the cargo van and drove back to work.

funny how i experience such dramatically opposed ends of the emotional scale--all having to do with an application that is almost sure not to be successful this year.  it's the journey folks.  maybe next year will be different.  maybe it will be the same.

today we made 3 different kinds of fudge for the christmas party.  i kind of gave up on the maple walnut fudge and quit beating it before it was done--so that one may be a goner, but the chocolate fudge and brown sugar fudge turned out famously.

last night i had a long wait for a bus on a quiet dark street so i naturally texted my old friend barb.  "hi brab.  FRIENDS FOR LIFE" lol.  a minute later who should call but babsarelli herself.  "laura, you have to stop  texting my home line." she said first thing.  which made me laugh very hard.  i just kept picturing a robotic voice relaying my text to barb over her home phone.  it's kind of delightful when i do something like that by accident.

i have a super duper christmas idea, but it may just be too big of a chew if you know what i'm saying.  we'll see.

christmas is coming and i'm joyus.

the barb sorry totally made me laugh. I find pleasure in stuff like that as well.

Yay, you did it Laura!!! Next year Calgary needs to be on your list.
Why isn't Calgary on your list? And you never know, this might be the year.
