from utar

sarah and i have had a fun trip so far. once we stopped at a place in oregon in the middle of nowhere. a deserted gas station. a burly haired man came out and cheerfully offered to trade us gas for tim horton's coffee and doughnuts. we went into the store and almost all the shelves were completely empty. the little restaurant wasn't running. just some mystery items in the hot cubby. but we were hungry for supper. i chose "bbq treat", adriel got a corn dog and sarah got beef and cheese burrito. adriel also got a raspberry slurpee. we sat outside on a metal red picnic table and ate. it was hot in the car and the breeze felt nice. we did our best to let adriel burn up some pent up energy. "this was a great choice." i kept saying about my bbq treat. it was a phrase that kept coming up with more and more irony as the day waned on.

all we had were google maps directions. we should have had a map, but we didn't. we do now. so what happened is when we were so close to utar and had made the right turn-off, we felt because of our dumb directions that we had made the wrong turn and turned around went back and drove forever on the wrong way. both were creepy empty highways and it was late at night. we called john and he told us where we were. by that time we were closer to pochatello so john told us to drive there and then get on the i15 from there. we stopped for gas just outside of pochatello in a little place calle chubbuck. it's name cheered us up considerably. from then on we kept expecting to be in utar but found ourselves still in idaho driving on roads that smelled intermittently like manure or skunk.

we were so delirious by the time we made it to richmond that we were acting like complete lunatics. it was almost 2:30 in the morning our time and we had been driving since 7am. we started laughing about how we started in richmond and there we were in richmond again. and sarah said in the "amy. it is not your time" voice, "johnny. we didn't make it!" and we both started laughing so hard. i tried it out and sarah pretended she didn't hear me and i said it again, irritated but in the same voice and that just put us over the edge. adriel in the back who had been being so cute and helpful the whole time saying things like "it's ok we're lost aunty laura, i'll help you find the road to utah", piped up saying "it is not your time!" and basically i was driving and in hysterics. i could barely see. after a while adriel asked us why we were crying.

we finally drove down their dark unlit street of beautiful houses and john blinked the light at us so we would know we were there. adriel said "i'm a little bit scared in my tummy of uncle john". as soon as john poked his head in the window though, adriel eagerly jumped in with "we brought treats uncle john!" and continued on with such exuberance about his bear claws etc.

we didn't go to church. we slept and sat around in our pjs and talked with slavica.

sunday night we played discombobulation with slavica and alysha.

today sarah and slavica went for a walk/run and adriel and i played on the trampoline which is his total favourite thing to do. i had a breakfast of special k granola, bananas and almond milk. and when slavica got home she made us the yummiest shake. then we drove to lee's and bought some treats for alysha's class and dropped them off, came home, got ready and went out for lunch at costa vida. hello! so yummy! we got the sweet pork salad. just so delicious. at costa vida i met with mishap when pulling in my chair for slavica to get behind me. as i pulled in the chair, the seat on one side rose and my fingers were squished under the wood as i sat on them. hurt quite a bit but not as bad as when i smashed my finger in december. we also shared a yummy milk cake. it doesn't sound yummy but it's super yummy.

i had mentioned to slavica that i was looking for super squishy flip-flops and so while she was at sam's, we went to shop co which is like a smaller target. we went from flip-flop stand to flip-flop stand, eventually each buying a pair of cute american eagle shoes instead. buy one get one half price. and then slavica suggested shoe carnival and there we found the squishiest flip-flops ever. sarah found a lot of cute shoes there. and we went to the dress barn. at first i didn't think there was anything good there on my side, but after a second look i found a lot of dresses to try on. the biggest problem with most of the dresses that the boobs were too baggy. but i did find a really cute brown dress. sarah actually found it for me and it was ten dollars off. we really liked their change rooms. they were big and spacious and had big white couches in each stall and really nice lighting. sarah found a gorgeous dress that i just love on her. then we went home.

back at the ranch we prepared for brenna's senior photo shoot with me. sarah did her hair of course and she wore one of karen's super cute flower clips. alysha was my assistant. we took some pics in a park and then some by some old buildings in 'downtown' smithfield. we stuck brenna in wine bucket. we did some with both girls together. i could have done more but it was time to go home for dinner so we did.

but then on the way back i saw some places to take some clicks so brenna and i went up the hill later and took a few more and we drove all the way to the base of the mountain where there was a trail. it was a really pretty night.

we just watched time traveler's wife and now everyone is in bed.

rambling's done.
