my new t-shirt says "staying in is the new going out". i'm all over that.

labour day weekend. yah. yeah. yeh-yeeeha.

it was the weekend i was supposed to drive up to william's lake to visit biffy. sometimes things that are supposed to happen don't and that's the case here. first i cancelled because i felt it would be too difficult to do. then after hanging up with biffy, i realized how much i really wanted to visit and then thought--hey i can get past difficulty! so then i was coming again. then the next day i felt ill and it was off again. i've been ill--fighting ill all labour day weekend. not the funnest farewell to summer kind of weekend.

i've watched 3 movies. one was twilight. it was as i expected, but i still enjoyed it. afterwards i had to explain the whole 4 books worth to edith in a few short sentences. i didn't feel too bad about it because first, i believe her when she says she won't read them and second, this is the girl that turned to me near the end of the last harry potter movie and we had something like this whispered conversation:

e: who's voldamort?
pause...
l: what? (a tense tight-lipped, incredulous kind of 'what')
another pause...
l: he's the bad guy!
e: there's so many bad guys!....was he in any other of the movies?
l: !! yes!
e: well what does he look like?

and we had recently watched the 5th one to prepare for the one we were watching. so you see what i was up against.

the second movie was called sunshine cleaners and was much darker than we expected, not to mention a surprise, disturbing sex scene out of the middle of no where. i don't recommend it.

the third movie was new in town with renee zelweger and harry connick jr. it was quite enjoyable. i especially loved the minnesota characters--accents, outfits, hair-dos, quirky ways and all. it''s formula is typical but i didn't mind that.

last night i had dinner at mom and dad's with evan and home-from-spain-esther. dad made johnny cake and it was quite a hit. i personally ate too much of it. we also had lamb stew which was very delicious. "well this was andrea's little lamb." sighed mom, after we were done. "was it the one that was poisoned?" asked evan, prompting some discussion on the whole situation of the poisoned fields.

before dinner mom brought me into her room to show me her new missionary clothes that dad bought her for her birthday/anniversary. one skirt in particular had a jungle theme and i commented on it. mom laughed and said it would go well with where they were going on their mission. mom and dad are totally excited about their up coming mission and have decided already where they are going to go. "you can't really pick, can you?" i asked cautiously. that's when mom told me about dad's plan to make some back room deals. what you do, explained mom, is call the mission president and then he requests you. i hope it works out because they are already calling guyana 'our mission'.

we didn't know much about guyana so we looked it up in the huge atlas and evan googled it. i didn't know there was an english speaking country in south america, but there is and guyana is it. it's on the top curve of the continent beside suriname. there's a large population of people from india in it. dad's frind gurt christiansen just came back from guyana and that's what's got them all fired up and excited about it. i must admit that i got a little excited about it too. i'm really excited for them to go on their missions actually. i'll sure miss them though.

for a while we played this game where i said a city in europe and they had to say what country it was in. after we tired of that, we ate okanagon peaches with whipped cream (yum!) and played the most excruciating game of phase 10 of my entire life. the excruciating part had to do with the fact that mom and dad believed that you had to have cards of one colour for a run. we'd never played it that way before, but i believed dad when he said he'd printed out the rules. but i read the rules after only to find that a run can be of any combination of colours. dad said he was happy to be wrong about that. me too.

i was so tired when i left and feeling a little queasy. it's the way i've been feeling all weekend. i listened to a talk on the way home that jordan gave me a couple of years ago called simple, solid and true. it's really good. when i got home i decided to watch finding nemo but fell asleep by the time the kids were climbing on the sting ray to go to school. i woke up at 2 in the morning to marlin saying "choose something!! the only wrong choice would to be to do nothing like you've been doing!" over and over. oops. sorry neighbours for forcing you to listen to hours of that in the middle of the night. i'm a bad person.

i've spent the whole morning up to now editing pics from my trip to calgary and one conclusion i've come to is that my hair was quite long before the popcorn ball cut. is a tiny trimmage always such a popcorn ball risk? with my hair you never know. sarah said it was the most challengling to cut because it's so unpredictable. well i can't help it.

i ate dry granola from a brown retro mug with a large spoon.

First, I'd like to thank you for posting my silly Potter question for all to read and think of me as a dummy.

Second, how cool that your parents are going on a mission to hopefully Guyana!

Third, you do know that there is an erronneous amount of skim milk powder of which you can make milk for your cereal.

Fourth, it's Okanagan not Okanagon

Finally, I want to play that city/country game!! Can we play tomorrow? Can we, can we, huh, huh!?

Poor biffy, probably did a biffy in the biffy and biffed it some more in the baroush due to her disappointment of a non biffy visit.

I didn't know our parent were that close to going on a mission, either.

And first, technically, it was originally Okanagon - which you can see at O'Keefe Ranch.

And second, it is a blog faux pas to correct spelling. You should be careful. She has 6 sisters who can be rather protective...

And third, we have all been sick all weekend and onwards, too. I think it is the H1N1 virus. It is very contagious, that's for sure.
