week 3--recovering a sesnse of power
had a two hour nap. woke up super hot. threw off my covers, took off my socks, cracked open a window--it doesn't matter i'm still steamy on the inside. i can especially feel the heat in my stomach and thighs. hey when i was going to boot camp, which was outside, in the dead cold of december i was stretching my quads one day, kneeling and leaning back towards my heals when i noticed with inexplicable pride that my thighs were steaming. i felt pleased. i felt pleased that i had produced that heat in my body and that it was plainly manifest.
anyways, i started reading week three in the artist's way. and i did some exercises that were quite illuminating. some burried dreams just popped out. and i was like oh yah! i'd love to do that! why not, right? here are some of my favourite quotes that are quoted in this chapter. i hope this doesn't ruin it for you amebly.
When a man takes one step toward God, God takes more steps toward that man than there are sands in the worlds of time.-- The Work of the Chariot
i love that one. and i believe it's true. it's hard to remember sometimes though.
Desire, ask, believe, receive.--Stella Terrill Mann
i think stella is just restating something that is said in scripture over and over and over. it's one of the simplest and greatest promises and sometimes i think that i do alot of desiring and asking but not so much believing. i want to say believing takes faith, i don't know if that makes sense, but i mean there's asking and there's asking believing that you will receive. it seems almost presumptuous or something. i see it in myself and so many others we don't want to get our hopes up that we will actually receieve. we want to be prepared for the event that we won't get what we want. in that case we practice this: desire, ask, disbelieve. that don't work too well, is all i'm saying.
We will discover the nature of our particular genius when we stop trying to conform to our own or to other peoples' models, learn to be ourselves, and allow our natural channel to open.--Shakti Gawain
it's a freeing thing to realize that i don't have to be like anybody else and that i can do things totally my own way and whatever way that is--is ok--is right for me.
Since you are like no other being ever created since the beginnning of time, you are incomparable.--Brenda Ueland
i've been told this from time to time in my life but very little since i've grown up and it's been seldom that i've let that thought sink in.
There is a vitality, a life force, an energy, a quickening, that is translated through you into action, and because there is only one of you in all time, this expression is unique. And if you block it, it will never exist through an y other medium and will be lost.--Martha Graham
wow. no wonder it's so serious a thing to burry your talents. this is my time to shine, to be me and do what i'm supposed to do, what i've been created to do--whatever that is, however i can do it. to complete my life's mission is only something i can do because only i am me, and if i don't do it, it can never be done in exactly that way. it's not my job to do it perfectly. i can't be stopped because i may make mistakes. i will make mistakes! i make them all the time. it's to do what i can to the best of my ability and to trust that that will be enough.
Creative work is play. It is free speculation using the materials of one's chosen form.--Stephen Nachmanovitch
Creativity is... seeing something that doesn't exist already. You need to find out how you can bring it into being and that way be a playmate ith God.--Michele Shea
well those are my thoughts. i feel much better.
