a few girls weekend pics, not a full documentation
i think of all the girl's weekends this has to be amongst the most ambitious. the sheer volume of people alone was ambitious. there was some chaos, sure, but i'd have to say there was more fun than chaos. i like it when fun exceeds chaos. i'm not going to give a full version of the weekend. but i will give some highlights. i will do that pig.
thursday after work i rushed home, took loads out of my car and one load back in. then i rushed off to the ferry. i took esther and her three bambinos (or bambonies, as katie's kids say) and dad took katie and sarah and their bambonies. carmen and evan sang songs and chattered all the way there. i forgot about the hov lane so we got there after dad who was at one time before me. well whatever.
andrea arrived just before us. we ate some good spaghetti and garlic bread and had dirt and worms for dessert. i had some stuff people might want from the thrift store and from my house. turns out all anyone wanted was the purple suede boots and the polkadot high heels.
we watched persuasion. the pbs version.
friday i came straight from work. i was tired. this is where i hit a rough patch. people were busy with quilting and babies but i didn't have a quilt to do and i sat around quite bored and tired for some time. then i came up with a brain wave of setting up a studio in the garage for photo shoots. i had this vision of taking pictures of sisters and groups of sisters and their families in groups and stuff like that. amy came with me. she was to be first. we took the polka shoes as props.
these were just some fool around pictures. note amy's skinny legs. note the sawdust, cords and two by four. note the fuzzy white blanket that amy was loathe to shed. it looks like it could be the edge of some fur coat, but it's not. no it's not.
sadly amy was called up to make the much acclaimed yam fries so i never got a chance to do a full shoot with her. in fact i didn't even have the proper lens on yet. i was just doing a couple of things with this lens before getting right down to business if you know what i mean. but oh well. this is what i DID get. and what i DID get, i like because amy is so simply beautiful and you basically can not go wrong in shooting her. same goes for all you other sisters. you're easy peasy lemon squeezie!
when editing this picture, i liked all of these three versions so i kept them all. tell me which one you prefer.
after dinner, which was very nice (all the dinners and lunches were SO good!), my rough patch got worse. katie came to the rescue though. we talked while she tried to put elizabeth down (a process which was successfully resisted by said elizabeth) and we decided to play a game. pictionary! and that was when everything turned around for me. it was lots of fun. it was the intuitive team against the artist team. we intuitives lost but we gave a good scrappy fight to the finish. it was a marathon game and twins and i didn't get home until one thirty. twins slept here. bethany slept with me and i duly supplied her with three pillows and open windows as she demanded. amy slept on the couch. we gave her the slip. while she was in the bathroom turned off all the lights and went to bed. when she got out, voila--she was alone in a darkned home.
next morning we arose at 8 so bethany could shower, so amy could shower and do her morning pages, and so i could bake the chicken for our lunch and do the dishes. the night before we made firm plans to leave ma and pop's house by nine thirty for the bird sanctuary. early birds and all that. so we got there just in time to see mom leaving to go retreive the van from dad. she forgot to tell him of our plans. so we went in and i ate a bagel and cream cheese. we ended up leaving a bit after ten, which wasn't too bad if you think of how big the group was and who the group was. i was in mom's van. bethany had copied out directions and passed them out to the different drivers (one had a birdie on it!) but we drove caravan style anyways. elizabeth started to cry each time we entered the tunnel. she's not a fan of the tunnel. other than that, we made it there without a hitch.
the parking lot was fuller than i've ever seen it and full of ducks of course. it was a good day for bird watching.
i like the below picture because of the foreground of rhiannon and the ducks and the midground documenting amy in her mudsy jackut and sarah, bethany and erin being cool in the background.
there was a plethora of feeding to greedy fat ducks.
and carmen made friends with a pigeon. if you click on this picture you can see how fierce the pigeon looks. i love the look on her face.
right after he flew off:
after the first part which was fraught with duck mobs, we spread out a bit. katie, natalie and i were in the back. we took our time looking at the birds. we saw wood ducks, black capped chickadees, a wren or two, a spotted towhee, red winged black birds, and MAYBE a tricoloured black bird, i can't be sure. it was fun showing the birds to katie and natalie. the kids loved the tower. we saw lots of different ducks, the american widgeon, and american coot, the northern pintail, (a pretty duck), the nothern shoveler, some green teals. we saw the violet green swallows too and lots of bald eagles circling way above. the tower is where we lost a large part of the group. but we forged ahead. amy was trying to hurry us along, but we rebelled.
some portraits of a sandhill crane:
and the cool thing at the end was that i saw night herons for the first time! they're so white and fat hey?
mom, erin and amy trying to be patient.
a pic i took of andrea and her cousin susan when i was being sassy. andrea insisted on a parking lot pic with a terrible background. so i just clicked a click when they weren't ready.
when we got home, sarah, delanie and i flew around getting the late lunch ready. we had a spinach, strawberry, roasted almonds, goat cheese salad with chicken in it. and garlic bread. the cousins stayed only for lunch and left. i had a little nap while the twins wrote and illustrated a story on mom's water bed.
later we made pizza.
amy took these of a sewing sarah:
that's all i'm writing. i got to doing other things if you must know. the point is, it was a fun girl's weekend and we did fun stuff and had fun together.
