karey blesses the west coast with her presence: day 2

saturday morning karey and i were supposed to go for a run. however, i didn't mention this to her until after she ate a twinkie. twinkies and running do not mix. karey and nikki each bought their own boxes of twinkies. back in the motherland of moose and beavers, when the shopping craze had waned a bit, they wondered what had come over them. i think that it's all linda's fault. linda linked twinkies and road trips to the states forever in our minds.

so basically we did not go running on saturday. but we did do other things. karey wanted to spend some time at the ocean and i wanted to look at birds (i forgot to say that on the way to the border on friday we saw like 50 bald eagles all in this one area, and this is not an exaggeration steve, if you're still out there riding the blogging waves. it was cool). so to do both, we went to boundry bay. before we left randy called and we coerced him into joining us. it went something like this:

phone rings. it's randy's ring which is a series of beeps and bloops because of his love of the tv show 24.
randy: blah blah blah (asks about rook for that evening)
me: blah blah blah (tells him about thai food and that he can come)
randy: what should i bring?
me: what should randy bring?
karey: tell him to bring dessert.
me: you can bring dessert.
karey: ask him why he doesn't want to spend the day with us.
me: karey wants to know why you won't spend the day with us.
randy: i never said i wouldn't spend the day with you!
general blah blah blah
randy: well scott is coming over to get my snowshoes...blah blah blah (tells us scott has a date)
me, karey and edith: blah blah blah (questions about scott's date)
randy: so i can be there for sure at quarter to 11.
me: well we wanted to go at 10:30.
randy: oh you wanted to go at 10:30... trails off.
me: well i guess we could wait for you. it is only 15 minutes. *laugh at my own analness on issue of time*
randy: blah blah blah
me: blah blah blah
we hang up.

so randy got here early and he drove. we 'preshiate him for that.

on the way there we played with karey's gorilla pod.
this is a look my kids will often experience during the millennium because apparently that's when they'll be born. speaking of kids, today cory said to me, "i heard you were going to have 12 kids." "no, 6 or 8", i corrected. he just looked at me. "but i'm running out of time." i admitted. he nodded like this is what he was waiting for. then he suggested having two of my own and adopting 4 so i could still pass on my genetic blah blah and also have the amount of kids you want. he went on to say that having 6 at once wouldn't be fun (you're telling me!) because you'd have to experience it all in one go instead of having the next kid being a baby to look forward to. "good point." i said. "but three sets of twins would be ok.". then he went on and on and then i summed it up by saying "thanks for the tips." and walked away.
this is also a look my kids will come to know and fear.

so there were quite a few eagles out and about at boundry bay. i just read in my marshnotes that during the christmas bird count there was a record number of eagles in ladner this year. over a thousand. so there you go. anywhoo, the point is they were there. and i was hoping the owls would be there too, so i directed our party down the raptor trail. there were no owls though. karey thinks i'm odd for being all about the birds, and there you have it. someone has come up with yet another reason to call me odd. here's some pics of our time at boundry bay:

karey and randal enjoying the view from the tower.

this is when i'm getting mad at her for eating randy's chocolate almonds when i was trying to take a picture of her. randy was all prepared with his back pack for come what may.

and you guys were missing all my self shots. well welcome to the flood pals and gals!

we eventually made it to the water. karey took this picture of the seagull watching over the feeding dunlin.
karey and randy self-shoot (kind of like self medicate, but i'm not talking about needles)

the three on shore series:

i lent karey elicia's gumboots and later regretted that i did not have some of my own.

haha. this is how she wears the hat sideways.
then i asked her if i could do a tradsies so i could get closer to shoot some dunlin mahself. she agreed. a trade was accomplished.
dunlin series:

my friends who waited patiently for me:

karey documented my lovely squat.

so then karey found this crab shell...

and then i took it and while i was playing with it, they all just walked away. i didn't care. i had crabby.

this sentence is sandwiched between two pictures that i like.

here is where i start pretending the crab shell is my mask and i'm the phantom from phantom of the opera...

pleased with myself:

karey, my bff, found a stump as she's wont to do. she's wont to want her picture takend with some kind of stump or other.

when we got back there were only two eagles and immature ones at that. the kid brother and sister that got left behind. i took these pictures of them and spiced them up with some editing.

so karey was peckish for fish and chips and randy was game to drive us to steveston so we stopped there for the best fish and chips ever--ie. pajos fish n' chips.
that's us on the wharf. when we pulled up karey was all "hey there's that restaurant that you (randy) took me to for my birthday..." and edith had been there with randy and sundry others too. i was the one of these things that wasn't like the others. so i was all, "i don't know why randy refuses to be seen with me at that restaurant." :) i mean you don't have to spell it out for me. i can take a hint randal james.

so we walked down to pajos and keep in mind that i've been to this pajos a number of times and yet i with the others stood at the pick up window waiting to order until a kind man tapped edith's shoulder (she thought it was me, but i'm not kind and i'm not a man...most of the time) and told us the ordering window was around the window. oh yeah. doy.

halibut just for the halibut. that will never get old for me i'm afraid.

randy get's stressed out when you take his picture. he stiffens up. so this is randy fighting the instinct to morph into a plywood board. to keep it cool he blisses out to his repeated refrain of "don't think about it... relax...don't think about it...act like normal..." here's his blissed out series:

this one looks like he's saying a blessing on the fish n chips. but he's not. he's going to his happy place, which i hope is not on a beach in hawaii with keanu reeves, like heather's is.
we had to remind him a lot of how lucky he was to spend valentine's day with us.

edith was quite pleased with her purchase.
full of chips we went home, but only briefly. our real destination was superstore where we bought the ingredients for our thai food night. we didn't need to buy lime leaves, lemon grass or lime juice because karey carted them from calgary in her suitcase. that is how dedicated to thai food night she was. we dictated cheesecake to randy for dessert and he humoured us.

we watched the smurfs and we had a smurfy time. after two or more episodes randy was too smurfed to watch any more. we all agreed.

barb called and wanted to be our friend so we invited her over. she brought pop and snacks. i made a thai soup and karey made a curry. the soup was super sour and caused me to pucker up towards the end of the bowl.

we played rook.

and that was more or less day two.

there's a lot of posts posted today but you'll get through it. i know you will. don't give up. never give up!

You forgot to mention how much I was desiring Lobster Bisque...for the past 19 months and have been going on and on about getting Bisque for the past 3 months not to mention all day on day 2. I really loved the 'blah blah blah' phone conversation!!

The 'nice man' actually grabbed my jacket sleeve and tugged down on it like a child to get my attention. It was quite funny-not something I think I would do to grab a stranger's attention, but anyways.

Yes, I think comment to this post would have to be... "blah, blah, blah" (comments on post) "blah, blah, blah" (comments on enjoying post) blah, blah, blah (says something witty or profound)
