k vw 3rd day

so i just got home from a temple trip day and i feel very tired so i don't know how much justice i'll give this day, but just bear with me.

sunday i spent the morning planning my lesson and then when edith was on her walk and i was supposed to be showering, karey and i got into one of those deep friend conversations all about life and what we should do in our lives all of those deep things.

then we went to church. it was nice to have karey with me at church again. felt right. we went early so i could set up for my class. once again there was someone in my class when i got there! i don't know what makes my particular classroom so popular for meetings before church but it is. it's rare for me to get there early and find it deserted. this time it was an elder who looked very tried. i asked him if he needed both rooms (there's a divider) and he very lethargically said no. so i pushed him and his table into the other half and shut the divider. karey and i set up chairs, and i wrote the scripture we're memorizing on the board. then we naturally took pictures of ourselves. hahaha.... while i was trying to go over my lesson.

after we'd had enough of this tom foolery we went and found our seats. it was scout sunday. everyone was wearing their uniforms and the scout leaders all gave talks. it was pretty good. i learned some good stuff about scouts that i didn't know before. mckay talked about each scout and the good things about them. that kind of thing always makes me cry, i don't know why. i mean it wasn't even about me! it's like how i cried at the montessori graduation when the teachers talked about each individual student. it's just really special and so important for kids that age to hear adults praise them and recognize them for the good things they do. it gets me every time.

karey took off after sacrament to hang with her old work friends and i took off to go teach my lesson. it worked out pretty well. they liked the manner in which we worked on the scripture. often seemed bored during the lesson, but i hope that they retain some of what we talk about. it was important stuff. last week was prayer and this week was the holy ghost and answer to prayer. i really want them to know that they can pray about anything and that they can get answers. we acted out, all impromptu like, a situation that could happen in every day life. we did a witnessing a kid getting bullied at school. they had to think about what the right thing to do was, make a decision about it and pray to see if it was right, then go out and follow through. they love acting things out.

i came home and made a strawberry, roasted walnut, spinach salad with balsamic dressing for family potluck. and i went to the potluck.

i got there just as evan and esther were leaving for their romantic hockey game. evan and carmen were inside as were maria and jane and all of martha's kids. it was good to see martha's kids again. they're all so cute and they've all grown so much. i got a hearty welcome from all the nieces and nephews. later dough and del got there with all their sick kids except caleb who was feeling to sick to come.

it was good to see martha busy being a mom. her kids love her so much. "mom can you do my hair?" "mom can you do my hair next?" "mom do you do that when you were little?" "mom,...."

after supper josh looked bored so me and him and douglas and dad played rummy-o but i don't think that helped their boredom any. so then we played yahtzee, a game i'm none too fond of, but i was willing to overlook it. karey arrived by that time and joined in on the yahtzee. crazily enough, i ended up winning. hah! i wouldn't have if douglas stayed the whole time though because he had yahtzee. but they had to leave before it was over.

so i promise aaron that i would play upset the fruit basket with him so me and karey and mom played upset the fruit basket with michell, aaron, packer and becca. it was pretty funny. aaron was in the middle quite a bit and was so funny about it. he has those same gangly movements ethan has, but he's super cute and aaron at the same time. rebecca would sometimes jump out of her spot, frantically ping off the couch and into her new spot. then we played the animal game. that was funny too. the most coveted spot was aaron's original animal which was a sheep that sang "mooo-mooo-mah-mooo-mooo" while shooting your fingers up and down by your head. aaron was very upset when he had to give that spot up and spent the rest of the time trying to get back there. meanwhile michelle asked me every time "can i start?". karey and i had lots of laughs playing with them.

we went home when they were going to bed.
