queen victoria's weekend

friday:

leif beat me to the house because it took longer than i thought to pick mom up from the ferry and drop her off at home. luckily elicia was there to entertain him. we went to the movies. it was such a beautiful summery night. i love the late light of summer nights.

leif said "will you allow me to pay for your popcorn?". haha. sure! i got the kid's combo as i'm wont to do. i don't need a HUGE drink or a TON of popcorn. plus you get a treat! we were waiting in the pizza pizza line when i suddenly stopped mid-sentence and said "hey, there's my dad!" and sure enough there he was, talking to the "first theatre on your left"-rip-your-ticket-kid.

dad went to the same movie as us. we went into the theatres together and out together. the summer light was just fading as we walked out to find leif's car in the 2nd circuit parking (said with a snobby sniff). the movie was pretty good. there were some changes and some hollywoodisms, but i still liked it alright. probably if i remembered the specifics of the story better i would have felt more jipped.

i gave leif half of my kinder surprise. a kinder surprise has a nutritious milky layer.

it was when we arrived at the coachman that i realized that i was without keys. elicia did not answer the buzzer and her cell phone could be heard ringing from the street below. heather wasn't home. i didn't know yelena's buzzer number. leif was patient throughout. "you know what," i said as i got in the car after trying to figure out which number was yelena's. "you could just leave me, i'll be fine." but leif said we could go for a drive. "where will we go?" i asked. i got the choice of a ubc tour, west van., marine drive, or...commercial drive. i thought the commercial drive suggestion was funny. not your usual driving tour locale. so anyways i picked ubc. it's been so long since i had a look at my old campus.

basically there's a ton more residenced everywhere. like everywhere. and we drove past cecil green house (ie. mansion) that i didn't even know existed. actually i had heard the name before but had no idea where it was or that it was a mansion. but it was. and there was a function. but we were not noticed. we laughed about a handycapped parking spot which was very far from the house and at the bottom of a steep flight of stairs. (?)

i called elicia at our second passing of the horticultural club. she was home and had been at safeway. sure enough my keys were safely hanging.

leif's going home on saturday.

saturday:

archie meowed loudly and incessantly at the foot of my bed at the ungodly hour of five am. scooped him up and out and thumped the door shut.

picked amy up 9:30am. already hot out.

had to have mcgriddles. we got elicia cinnamon melts and a fruit yoghurt cup.

picked mom up. mom fumfered. she needed a hat. dad offered his panama hat. after trying it on and peering at herself in the mirror she said "sorry honey, it just doesn't fit the bill." "what's wrong with the panama hat?!" wonders dad. amy offered her hat, but this wasn't right either. mom eventually went for cap from mexico.

i had my binocs, elicia offered amy hers and mom had an, in her words, "unstylishly short strapped" pair. we bought seed and the lady said the owletts were still there. we didn't come at the best time. it was noonish and very hot and so the path was not aswarming with ducks as usual. but we saw lots of baby ducks and geese. amy has a full account on her blog. the owletts weren't in their nest. later the lady happened to mention that they were flying now and so higher up in the tree and stuff. hmph. would have been nice to know.

i saw my co-worker robin leech of the rich and famous. she was trying out her new camera.

the best parts were the chickadee eating from amy's palm three times and feeding the mallard whose pecking made me chuckle. being stalked by the sandhill crane was pretty hilarious too.

amy and i watched ps i love you. liked it. apparently irish guys are super cute. this is the message of this movie.

sunday:

church was really good. felt filled up and good. felt thankful and like i wanted to cry.

dinner at mom and pop's. dad made bbqed chicken like the olden days. amy made cauliflower with tumeric and mustard seed. goodness. my ice cream didn't work. i think my bowl wasn't frozen enough. mom came to the rescue. we added the custard stuff to some frozen fruits in her vitamix and it turned out yummy anyways. we ate it with delanie's cinnamon buns.

andreas was there too. he helped me with the ice cream. mom made a adjective story and we did it after dinner. the kids really liked it and had some good laughs.

after dinner me and madelaine tried to find this frog that was being very loud somewhere in the back of the house. then me and madelaine and mary played a kind of cherades/visual 20 questions. amy joined us part way. then madelaine, caleb, amy and i played big boggle with a broken lid. the broken lid proved tricky, but we managed it.

mary drew me pictures featuring orange cats and sunshine.

monday:

archie was bad again this morning in the five oh clock hour. bad bad bad cat. i kicked him out but when amy left sometime in the sixes, he came back and with him came his annoying, slumber piercing meowing. finally got up at sevenish. amy had bad dreams. we talked for a while. then i brought out my camera graveyard and showed andreas everything. he told me all about everything. it was great. meanwhile amy was bored and put herself into beating my minesweeper times.

we went to ihop. was hopping at ihop. while we waited we tried to play concentration but andreas was insecure about his concentration abilities so we moved on to eye-spy. you'd be surprised at how diverting a game of eye-spy can be.

i had the ham and cheese melt breakfast sandwich. which is a perfect breakfast sandwich. it just is. andreas got the amazing looking stuffed waffle wich is stuffed with sweet cream cheese and had an apple cinnamon topping! not only this but it came with eggs, sausage or bacon and hashbrowns. when the waitress asked if he would like sausage or bacon, andreas looked at us with wild panicky eyes. amy got a delishus 'garden omelette' which doesn't describe how good it was. i know, i had a bite.

amy and andreas are gone to europe. they went to the airport four hours early just so they could get good seats. luckies.

when i got home it was to a call from ma and pops inviting me to come over. begged time for a nap first and i think i napped for two hours. hours that archie's been stealing from me with his bad meowing ways.

mom made home made whole wheat bread! i've had way too much bread today. we played up and down the river and it was the worst up and down the river i've ever played. i got my bid something like 4 times only. grr. then we played rummy-o. dad didn't win so he said he hated that game. haha. mom made bbqed chicken and bean soup. it was good. we went for a walk with madelain, mary and gabriel. we were trying to find the river, which we never did but we did find other cool pathways and stuff. lots of slugs and snails. i took some pics.

and now i'm putting off going to bed.
