we went to the wedding and gave the bride away

amy surprised us all by being in nanaimo on wednesday morning. when dad came down to look for the air bed pump and to simultaneously wake me up. who should pop up but amy also. "how'd you get here?" i sputtered. she shrugged like it was the plan all along. "drove." upon pressing her i learned that andreas drove her up in his mom's car.

we all got ready.

we picked up sarah. this is when i hopped out of the van with some of my luggage and took it in to sarah's. amy went in too. she wanted something else. something it's not right to mention. adriel was upset when mimi left and then doubly so when his mom left but that's the way it is when you're a babelett.

sarah sat in the cat pee corner next to somebody's suitcase and a box. we drove to duke point where there was no 8:15 ferry. dad chose to be upset by this and punched the steering wheel. but everything was ok since we had time to catch the departure bay ferry which is what we did.

twinners took off for some twin time once we got to the ferry. mom wanted to stay in the van for one of her cat naps (shoulda had it in the cat pee corner but that's neither here nor there.) sarah and i accidentally lost dad who silently ducked away to use the washroom. we found some good seats though. the kind that face each other AND you can reach your feet to the other side. this was when dadster showed up and wanted us to hang out with him in the cafeteria. we're easy going so we obliged and besides the bacon smelled good, so we talked ourselves into getting some along with an order of hashbrowns and we decided not to share but to get our own individual orders.

after packing it all away we decided to play up and down the river. i just so happened to have a pack of rook cards in my purse. they resided there for the next couple of days along with some uno cards, a baggie of dice, some cold FX, tylonol extra strength, and various other items. anyways the truth is, i was doing quite well on up and down the river contrary to sunday night when i was biting the big one so i was enjoying myself needless to say. meanwhile sarah decided that her and amy needed to go and practice their song so they left. mom was supposed to come up and take sarah's place but she took her sweet time. meanwhile we played dice and bethany who doesn't 'like' dice came and participated like maybe she did like dice a little bit but was shy about it. mom eventually did join us but we didn't finish the up and down the river game. on the way back to our car mom kept randomly uttering "squid." that's because on that ferry there's a picture of a sea creature at the different doors downstairs. on our doorway was a shrimp. thus "squid". sometimes people just need to say squid. i do it now too. squid.

we decided to stop at le chateau down town so amy could buy a bolero, which she forgot as well as her camera, and dad could try to make a sale. bethany was nervous (read frantic) about the timing of things the whole time. i can understand why. i was actually freaking out about that sort of thing on the way to my endowment too. but this wasn't my endowment and i wasn't nervous (frantic). we all had to 11 to back at the van. mom and all us girls crossed robson and went to le chateau. frankly they all left without me but mom and sarah stopped to wait for me to give credit where credit is due. once there we had a fun time going through the earrings and bracelets. i ended up getting some gold bangles and some gold circle earrings to match and amy got the cutest earrings ever which are featured in a picture further on.

bethany pushed us all out of le chateau but dad wasn't back at the van yet which sent her nearly into the depths of despair and agitation but for rocky mountain chocolate factory which the van was parked right in front of. so we bought some treats. amy and i each bought a marzipan fruit. i got an orange and she got a mango i believe. i got a raspberry truffle and she got a raspberry caramel. we have similar tastes and that's ok. sarah got one of her moguls and bethany got something she didn't share so i don't remember what it was. she was done purchasing first. there were bunny chocolate covered apples with marshmellows for cheeks.

dad was back so we all piled into the van again and took off. it was sunny and nice out and i felt carefree. i suppose the old man who was riding the yellow vespa with the rainbow scarf felt the same way. we all enjoyed watching him put along happily.

that's when we took a series of pictures trying to fit the 4 of us in. you can see how successful we were. i like this one the best. note amy with her other pair of cute new earrings and despise her a little bit for always getting the cutest things.

this was also when we took the suitcase and piled it ontop of another one on the floor in front of my feet which i promptly used as a foot rest and sarah had the whole cat pee corner to herself.

the border was a breeze for once although dad and the border guard had some quibbling about what is done in the temple yadda yadda. he was kind of a grump but dad was cheerful.

the time seemed to drag but in actuality we made good time. bethanybridezilla didn't want to allow us a stop at the house where we were staying but we had lots of time, so we did. it was a nice house not far from the temple. the twins were in a room with twin beds (how quaint) and mom and dad were in a room with a king size bed. they were all upstairs. sarah and i got the 'bonus room' downstairs. it had a couch and a sewing machine in it. we set up the air matress in there and the lady of the house, marilyn got us some sheets. she described them as drab army green sheets in an appologetic way. like we minded about that! we were just glad to have some sheets. meanwhile somewhere in the upstairs amy tried on her bride's maid dress and realized that it barely covered her unmentionables. ack no! so we dropped mom and bethany off at the garment distribution place and dad, sarah, amy and i went to joanne's to buy some fabric. when it came down to it, i found both of the things we ended up buying and i saved the day. dad added some comic relief by asking amy if she was talking about her bra straps. "it's a good thing we decided to come." pointed out sarah after that comment. after that we stopped at the drug store so sarah could buy some PANTYHOSE with a CONTROL TOP. i bought some nail polish remover and i took my blood pressure. so did dad and amy. we basically killed time there. then when we were walking out we all walked in the total opposite way than the car was. boy did we feel foolish.

at the temple sarah and i got to join in on bethany's instructions. there was some confusion before hand with the ladies. they kept telling us to do different things one after the other but they were cute so you can't be bugged. then what happened is that sarah and i both heard the word 'warshed' in the place of the word 'washed'.

i felt happy to be with my family in the temple. it's always nice to be in the temple but it's nicest to be in the temple with family. gail hugged me in the celestial room then right away hugged me again.

we realized that despite our best intentions bethany got some wrong size garments. it doesn't matter what you do, it is like rain in vancouver. it happens.

we went to azteca for dinner. a very late dinner. i sat beside maria and basically was engaged with her the whole dinner time. she had a magic straw. and then everything became magic. amy and i both got the fajita chimichangas. our plates were enormous. we were the last ones to leave and i think they were relieved to see us go.

sarah and i were very tired and fell into sleep on our air matress. we had seperate blankets. sarah said seperate blankets felt wrong. in the middle of the night i woke up from my body shivering uncontrolably. i reached down to pull on another blanket perplexed, being a naturally hot sleeper. i felt like i never fell fully back to sleep and at six thirty sarah woke up too. we talked in bed. i felt really yucky. i'd been fighting something since arriving in nanaimo. and when i stood up to go to the bathroom i felt dizzy and my shoulders, ribs and hips hurt. not to mention my eyes. they hurt too. so mom came down to sew amy's dress and we eventually got up. i went up and asked dad for a blessing and that's when i realized how hot i was and that duh, i had a fever. the rest of the morning i kind of dozed and lay on the couch while mom sewed and sarah did people's hair.

she did amy's hair really cute. note amy's cute earrings and hate her if you must.

bethany spent some time filing her nails (used my clippers from the pink vestuble) and i documented it. here she is delecatly examining a finger tip.

this is her clipping. note mom in the background sewing. that's what she did all morning. she enjoyed it too. she said the mother of the bride needs something like that to do to keep her busy. thanks to sarah grounds making a short dress it was possible for mom to keep busy right up until it was time to go.

dad was sent on many an errand, like buying us breakfast oranges and yoghurt, buying bethany a wedding band and so on. he got some guff for getting fat free yoghurt but i was just glad to have an orange.

"obliging neck" says bethany.

sarah commences work on her bethany masterpiece. mom sews.

mostly complete, except the wispy rebelious bangs.

we all had fake lashes and amy became the expert at putting them on because she was called on to put them on everyone.

my favourite amy's earring shot (i took a bounty of them). i like it hanging luminescent and out of focus. gleaming pearl ball dangles.

thanks to the blessing and the tylenol my feaver broke and i was well enough to get ready. while i ironed my dress the man of the house, an artist with the last name of rand, watched what looked like a good cary grant movie with, could it be sophia lauren?. i want to see it now.

we left the rand's house at the time bethany was supposed to be getting sealed. a skinnier trim looking john in a green and blue striped tie (pleasing) met us in front of the temple. my sash had come untied and i was passing him my cameras and that's when pinklet hit the ground. but she didn't break.

the sealing was special and beautiful. i sat beside mom and bethany was facing us. she could barely look at ben and when she did she had big tears rolling down her cheek and that caused the tears to roll down my cheek. their sealer was alvin m. alexander jr. he gave them the five priorities of marriage. 1. the lord. try to do something to get to know him better every day said alivn. 2. each other. 3. your children. 4. your church calling and 5. your living. and everything else comes after said alvin. i gave her a big hug after the parents did. i saw that hugging mom made her want to bawl. i wanted to keep on hugging her. i love her so much. kyle in pretending to caress sarah's back was really giving her steady pushes. she told him to knock it off. i saw alvin looking like it was time for us to go. i accompanied sarah downstairs to get her maid's dress and then we joined katie, mom and bethany in the bride's room. the bride's room is so nice and the temple ladies are so nice and helpful and they try to think of everything and they're so helpful. sarah was the one entrusted to cinch bethany up. katie and mom were the ones pinning the boleros into place. i sat around and blew my nose.

i told bethany not to come out right after me but to wait so i'd have time to get the camera ready. well it took too much time to get my camera at the front desk so when i came out i gave pinklet to delanie and she took the first out of the temple pics while i prepared old daddy. bethany was worried that there wouldn't be many cameras. who didn't have a camera is the more accurate question. there was a frenzy of picture taking.

i picked the kissing one. ben has some pretty meaty paws don't you think? and doesn't bethany look great in her side profile. well she looked gorgeous no matter which way she turned but i am enjoying this particular view right now.

this is the goofy "hehe we just got married look" notice they are both pulled in different directions by the myriad of picture takers.

amy knows the right person to look at.

i like these two shots.

the bridal party.

i will hazard a guess that this is the pose that ben is the most comfortable. i believe amy took this shot. she periodically had pinklett.

i think she may have taken this one too.

me and katie.

me and amblie

ben's impromptu buttonaire. he was worried that i was taking a super close-up of his face and heaved a sigh of relief when i explained otherwise.

bethany's art of colour art of style hair done by none other than sarah-lynn stratton.

a sheepish bridal bean.

amy took this and it's amongst my favourites. i loved bethany's heather bouquet. it was so pretty. and it matched my dress.

another good one by aimes.

amy's genious once again. i lightened the exposure a bit.

this one is amy's favourite.

i like how amy captured the largeness of the temple walls and the curve too.

the kids were throwing petals at bethany until they got in trouble for picking the temple flowers. here she is looking cute.

i tried to lessen the whiteness of their heads. it doesn't work. they just have bright heads.

this was when i asked them to act cool. it was pretty funny. they all acted very ill at ease and were at a lack. then they came up with this.

me and the bride. she's tired of pictures now and has begun to worry about the time again.

sisters. this is a cute one. there's no denying it. it was at this point dad started yelling at us from the van that we had to go and we were going to miss the ferry and then at the same time bethany was calling to me and so was amy from another direction and this all caused me to snap and say a very loud "NO." to amy who was asking me to take a picture of her and sarah. which i immediately regretted doing. and i almost forgot old daddy behind on my way to give bethany her temple recomend which was in my pocket.

once in the van i realized that dad was rushing us off so we could eat at the golden corral buffett. so unimportant! oh well. i started to pull my pants on under my dress but then dad pulled up right in front of the temple making it impossible to continue changing in the van. amy and i both lay down and slept. we both had our own rows thanks to the abandonment by sarah in favour of kyle and bethany in favour of her new hubby. just before marysville i completed my car changing. the golden corral had pretty good food but it also had that atmosphere of gluttony and waste that i hate. on the way home amy and i lay down again. at one point i asked mom and dad to sing. they were having a hard time for some reason so i kept piping up with songs for them to sing. when you feel sick you like your parents to sing songs they used to sing when you were little. amy however didn't appreciate the interruptions to her sleep so after strawberry roan i stopped asking.

we had no probs catching the 9:10 ferry. bethany and ben were on that ferry too. dad grabbed the rook cards from my purse and went off to play with dave and ben and whoever else. me and the twins played uno but only once. john gave us his travel uno cards that were round. he was really proud of them. then we decided to make up a story. by this time ben was back and sitting next to amy. so the rules to the story game is that you say as much (within reason) or as little as you want and then it's the next person's turn to add on. well we ended up making a genious story. it was perfect and it even ended perfectly. i wish that we recorded it. i'll just tell you the general jist of it: it was about buppy, bupphiverous, and beanie. they were in a band called the mammas and the pappas 2nd generation. beanie had a crush on bupphiverous who had that disease where you have no hair and played the tamborine in the band. beanie was daydreaming about bupphiverous one day in social studies class (around this time, ben started talking to his two friends who came up to him and left the story telling to us). beanie was rapping her pencil really loudly and i don't remember how, but she caught the attention of the teacher mr. biffy. she ends up telling him that her dog died. mr biffy also her next door neighbour, doesn't believe she ever had a dog and sent her to go have a talk with mrs. grisham. beanie leaves class in tears, mortified and in despair about bupphiverous. meanwhile bupphiverous busts a gasket in class and yells "she does too have a dog!" (it was amy who came up with that line and when she said it, we all bust out laughing our heads off. i then went in to hysterics with the twin helpless to stop laughing. meanwhile ben and his friends seem oblivious to our plight. later ben said he thought we were laughing at the story he was telling his friends, or his friends were telling about him, i don't remember which) when we finally get it together, bupphiverous and mr.biffy have quite the show down and we find out that mr. biffy is on the edge of a mental breakdown. bupphiverous is sent to see mrs. grisham also. he stalks into the office grabs a surprised beanie and says "we're getting outta here." in the hall a bewildered beanie and a storming bupphiverous, still holding beanie's hand meat up with laid back long haired, full bearded ukelele playing buppy. he joins them. just as they reach the door mr. biffy confronts them. he's practiaclly a raving lunatic now and shows his prejudice towards the mamas and the pappas 2nd generation. beanie slaps him and from then on bupphiverous only has eyes for her, tenderly noting each freckle on her face. they kiss and just as mr. biffy is about to attack mrs. grisham comes and saves the day. that's the basics of our story. we were very amazed and proud of ourselves. (bethany and amy feel free to add anything i left out)

we shared the pink wool blanket.

amy and her sahib shoe that she forgot at sarah's and hopefully it was her sock that we stuffed in the toe of sahib.

the next day i got a chance to document ginnifer the doll i made bethany for christmas. note her aggressive stance and her unsightly kankles. she's almost completely made from the recycling centre.

ginny's close up.

ginny's profile. note her side burns and bed head. there's so much to ginnifer.

bethany's wedding cake. sister may did an awesome job didn't she? she told me that at first she made lighter icing then she saw the dark blue so she changed it. bethany made those white chocolate sea shells. she sells shells by the sea shore (i was saying this in my head while typing and totally flubbed it in thought)

top angle.

the head table. looks pretty to me. note mom in the background in her soft mauve suit. dad and mina are even more faintly in the background but they're there.

cute michealah. this was one of the only two orange flowers. the rest were yellow and some white.

katie was sporting a super cute new cut and a super cute outfit. she couldn't help but give me this imperious look though. douglas looks on in the background.

jordan surprised and flustered katie and i by announcing that we each were going to tell a funny or cute story about bethany. i rambled a bunch of stuff and katie said something about how sweet and childlike bethany has always been. i felt bad because there were so many things i COULD have said, but bethany said it was fine and i guess that's all that matters. eliza said she was just noticing my dress while i was talking and hey maybe others were doing the same thing! it was embarrassing.

jane and her daddy.

in this picture i am giving the half lid look because that's what fake lashes make you want to do. fatima is ghosting beside me and douglas hovers in the background.

i know this shot is blurry but i like the way it makes the lights look.

i had pinklet on a weird setting. it made everything orange and any movement turns you into a ghost. here is bethany dancing her first dance with her ghost husband.

two hot babes.

amy joins in to have her hotness recorded.

the son of a hot mother.

not the typical wedding picture but so much that is enjoyable to me. bethany's manical evil eye, the orange flames shooting out of jordan's head...

brent was had a lot of ladies to dance with at once. brent was funny. he had a really sore back but kept putting tables and chairs away, only slowly and hunched over. sometimes he used the chairs as crutches.

fatima is not one to miss a clarke wedding.

sarah's earrings. i like earrings ok?

me in my new dress and my new hair.

me and pops. i was hoping for a slow dance with dad, but he came up to me during a fast song and said "common laura let's wiggle." what ensued was quite the spectecle. the problems was that dad twirls you all the time and my dress was very twirly and so i spent most of my time concerned about flashing the other people in the gymn and not looking graceful. and there was no chance of looking graceful. i caught sarah and kyle full of mirth watching us, and afterwards uncle allen said i could do with some dancing lessons. fair enough but at least i did not expose the nanaimo ward.

a self portrait of my earring. i like it.

and yes me again.

jane totally konked out. i felt like konking out too. soon we went home with anne a whole box of left overs which leaked on sarah and her dress during the car ride home. we ate left overs the next two days.

i felt poorly still the next day despite being plied with mom and dad's bleach concoction all day the day before. i had a splitting headache and felt tired all the time. but this didn't stop fatima from showing me her 'yoga moves' and later after sarah got home from work, we went shopping and sarah got a cute dress from the gap and a white belt to match. then we came back and tried to snooze while watching oprah. it was about 'freegans'. then fatima had a ferry to catch. kyle ordered pizza while we were gone but it took its sweet time getting there. meanwhile we watched american idol and top model. then sarah and i went to katie's for sister movie night and we watched the old classic, girls just want to have fun. i couldn't believe that katie had never seen it before. we had fun with everyone's outfits. next day kyle had some compulsive behavior having to do with watching king of queens over and over and over and over. he couldn't stop. he just couldn't stop. church was ok. i was tired. soon it was time to go to the ferry. i only had short sleeved t-shirt and it was sooo cold on the ferry. i think i may have been sitting in the coldest spot. i kept trying to cover my arms with the material on my laundry bag. across from me a couple spoke in italian smattered with english the whole way. and that's the end of this story.
