a grapple is not a cross between an apple and a grape. a grapple it seems is an apple with natural and artificial grape flavours.
"wow!....oh WOW!" exclaimed elicia for the hundredth time. she was on the phone with a friend from church who was explaining some skin care products. laura leaned back from the computer and mouthed "wow!" to elicia. after five more minutes of steady murmured and exclaimed wows, elicia found a new word "wo-er.. neat!" this sent laura into peals of chortles, as the twins would describe it.
today elicia made me dinner. she stir fried some tofu and some veggies. hit the spot if truth be told. i was sitting at the computer eating mine and she was standing over me with hers. a garlicky aroma wafted down. "hey! how come yours is garlicky?" i asked accusingly. "i put garlic salt on it." elicia smugly replied, adding that if i wanted some i could put some on and she wasn't here to wait on me hand and foot type of diatribe as she padded down the hall to her room with her bowl. later walking down the hall to retrieve the phone i followed the trail of garlic to her room.
so i've been wanting to tell you about the dinsmore heron. that's what i've named her. and i've also decided that she's a she because it's obvious to me that that is what she is. anyways you may remember a while back i was cycling home and stopped to click her when she was close to the side of the road and it was a foggy day. that was before i knew her. now i see her all the time. either flying low over the river, or once i saw her in a tree by the river, but mostly i see her doing her sneaky walk in the tall grasses of the field to the side of the dinsmore bridge (thus her name) the other day i felt she was there but i couldn't see her, then just as i was coming round the bend from gilbert to ross baker way, she rose up from somewhere in the middle of the field and flew past me. she's not a huge heron. she's medjyum to smallish. also i've noticed a small stream, if you can even call it that--more a rivulet of water in the field and today i felt that she would probably be there and as i was cycling by i craned my head to look and sure enough she was! we have a connection.
i had a nap today after work. i fell asleep while reading the paper in bed. but archie, he would not let things be. no he wouldn't. archie insisted on sitting on the window ledge above my head and letting out small but plaintive mews and once in a while, reaching out to slightly paw my hair. insatiable orange cat!
