a (sunday) walk to remember.

heather and i visited the dike before sunset. it was another beautiful evening on the dike. on the way back, the sky had lingering orange clinging to the mountains but it was getting dusky. we were rounding a corner and all of a sudden this gaggle of geese flew out from behind some trees. they were black against the sky and flying low. i covered my head just in case some of them had a need to take a load off, if you know what i mean. they were canadian geese and they came so swiftly and headed off towards the sea.

the ditch water has gone way down and it's scummy with rotting vegetable matter. the ducks were having a feast. amongst the ducks we saw some sandpiper like birds. i tired to take pictures of them, but as per usual they were tiny specks on the screen.

i made heather a cake. i hope it's ok. i hope it's not dry. it's going to be a three layer cake. lemon poppyseed with cream cheese filling and a lemon glaze. i hope she likes it. she loves lemon.

yesterday was our ward fall picnic, "corn on the corner". we saw jonathon there, sporting some facial hair. he said he had been too sick to shave. he just got back from a summer in asia. heather and i sat with claudine for a while. her baby is getting so big. i wasn't that hungry having pigged out on mojos earlier in the day, but i was super thirsty, so i drank a lot of lemonade. the food wasn't that great. there was a lot of weird stuff and heather was disappointed with the corn because it was bbqed and hers tasted burnt, but i didn't mind the watermelon. she said it was rubbery. in front of us in line-up with the crazy hat people, was laurance. laurance talking to the bishop explained that he goes to the liquor store on cambie all the time and he comes to the park for beer breaks. later he said he was a beggar by trade. the hat ladies took good care of him. there also was a soccer coach who someone invited to eat.

man oh man am i starving!

after the picnic we went to randy's to watch a movie. chandra and scott came too. scott brought some ice cream and some chips and we used randy's plethora of frozen blueberries to make a shakes. poor randy. elicia who was really tired and giddy, spilled a bunch of blueberries between the crack of his fridge and counter. she counted five in total. later on she spilled the chips all over the floor. meanwhile i was volunteered to make the shakes. at first randy hovered beside me, tossing in the blueberries when needed. he's a nervous nelly about his blender. he was worried i was going to burn it out. i assured him that i would not. when the blender stopped moving the stuff around and made the low sound randy told me "that's the universal sign for more milk." i found this statement very amusing, and would snort to myself about it as i made the shakes. "oh there's the universal sign for more milk!" i would chuckle to myself. but to randy i said a firm "do you want to do this?" that's when he stepped away and left me to it. i was almost done and somebody needed a spoon or something so i grabbed one, dropped it on randy's foot and dripped on his kitchen matt. "that blue spot is going to be there forever." moans randy, "blueberries don't come out." "oh yes they do," i say matter of factly "you just pore boiling water on them and it comes out like magic." (unless you're katie). but i felt bad for causing another nervous nelly moment.

we watched roman holiday. a lovely movie. audrey hepburn. gregory peck. sigh.
