monday after work i lay down in my bed. i intended to have a ten minute snooze. it was around 6:30 and i woke up at 10. oh boy. what a dolt, eh. what a pickle i was in. what to do, what to do... so i watched the rest of without a trace and did sudoku and watched the news. i didn't go to bed until 2:30 or so.
tuesday was a return of beautiful weather so elicia and i went off to the beach after work but not before karey called. "uhh, i can't talk long because we're off to the beach again." i told her cheerfully. "i hate you." was her unpleasant reply. it was pretty nippy at the beach though. a nippiness due to excessive wind. we didn't stay in the water as long or lounge as long on the sand but we still had a good time.
wednesday i went in to work early to do the pancakes. i flip a pretty golden flapjack if i do say so myself. that was one of those days at work where everyone was off or had to go out to a site or something. i was steeling myself for that kind of day, but it wasn't that bad if truth be told. and blair and i made these squares that were soooo easy. it was a relief to do something easy on baking day, let me tell you. graham cracker crumb crust, sprinkle of coconut, sprinkle of butterscotch chips, sprinkle of chocolate chips, drizzle of eagle brand, sprinkle of chopped nuts, pat it down, bake it for half an hour and bob's your uncle, as amy's fond of saying.
wednesday after work we had a bbq at lisa's aunt's. she was dog sitting for a considerable chunk oh cash at her rich auntie's. they have a nice backyard with a patio and a lawn too. they have a swing like ours and i sat on that most of the night. it was a pretty fun night, as fun as it can be when you're the only non-drinker. we had steak and chicken and potato salad and maccaroni salad and all that kind of bbq food. and strawberry shortcake for dessert. we played a weird kind of bacci ball with kid's plastic balls that involved drinking shots for the losers. i was given cherry koolaid. i left around nine thirty.
thursday barb and i went kayaking with w.ow. (women on water). it was a gorgeous night for a paddle. because of the oil spill we couldn't go on our planned route, so we went up the arm just past the danger bay house again. it was date night. (barb and i inveriably end up going on date night) so we got date squares at the half way mark. to get your date square you had to siddle up to the woman with the tupperware full of them. not always easy when the water's infested with other women in kayaks hunting for their square as well. sometimes a square is proffered to you on a paddle. i always get crumbs on my wetskirt. i'm not proud of it, but it's the truth. i spent most of the night practicing my technique and i think i'm getting faster. on the way out i lost barb in the jumble of boats and i ended up being in the back of the fast group much to my surprise. barb and i met up again at date square time but while she was getting her square i decided to go out a little further before it was time to turn around and we were seperated again. when i did turn around i started copying the paddling of a this lady who was going really fast and i ended up passing a lot of people who hadn't gone out past the danger bay house. my goal was to catch up with barb. i was looking for dark haired girl in a white kayak and just when i saw her ahead of me she pulled off to the side to look at something on a rock cliff with some other people. they were coming back just as i passed them and i thought "oh good. barb will catch up with me and she can tell me what she was looking at." but she never did catch up with me and pretty soon i didn't really hear anyone around me. there was only the one lady who i had been copying in front of me as i rounded the bend to the cove. we were amongst the first back and when i got out and looked behind the cove was full of the orange dots trailing in. cool i thought. there were a bunch of people in the shallower waters learning how to turn over in their kayaks. after i stripped off my wet skirt successfully without pulling off my pants as well if you know what i'm saying, i went over to the wall and sat on the warm cement and watched. it was neat. i saw barb come in and i was waiting for her to find me, but she thought i was still behind her so she was searching the seas for me and no matter how i yelled 'baaaaaaaaaaarb!' she would not look my way. i even yelled "barb goulet!!!" not a turn of the head. so i had to get up and put my arm on her shoulder and say "you looking for me?" heheheh. she was surprised. apparently she never saw me pass them. so we watched the people learning their lessons while we were waiting for everyone to get in and the draw prizes. it's so facinating. i can't wait to have that lesson. barb was likewise enthralled. we didn't win anything. then we went to get fish and chips. tempura batter fish and chips. yum-YUM. they were only accepting take out so we went back to the park and ate on the grass until a renegade wasp interrupted us and i was like "i'm outta here" so we ate the rest in the car.
