friday i worked in the thrift store and i found two finds. a pair of bushnell birding binoculars in excellent condition with a case and everything and a tent for archie and izzy. nice.

we closed early because it was our annual david bland memorial softball game and bbq with 'the team' and some others in the mental health community. randy was there too, but he showed up late if you know what i mean. i didn't have to stay long because friday's my early day but i ended up staying until four anyways. i like watching the members play ball together. and it was nice sitting under the trees in my camping chair with my friends from work. like every year, paul would find dave d. and pester him with questions on the un and who made a more complex nuclear bomb etc. that gave me quite a bit of amusement especially since it wasn't me. not that dave didn't try to send him my way. but luckily for me paul thinks women aren't smart. they're pretty and kind. i had an argument with him about it one year. i don't know why i did. sometimes i can't help myself. anyways it was nice to chill. there was this one girl named amy who hit the ball and ran all the way to first base with the bat in her hand. afterwards there was bbq but i didn't wait for it, i went home.

but i was starving. elicia's mom and brother were coming over but later so we decided to watch a movie. so elicia went out to get one and i cleaned the floors. then suddenly i knew what i needed to eat. i needed a donair. so i phoned elicia and through the miracle of cellular communication asked her to pick one up for me. it was sooooooooooooooo good. would i get tired of donairs if i ate one every day? i don't think so. elicia picked out miss potter. it's about beatrix potter with rene zellweger and you-an mcgreggor. i really really liked it too.

saturday i decided to do some birding. right now i'm into becoming a birder. so not having much cash, i walked over to the used book store and looked at their field guides. they didn't have what i wanted but i reasoned i couldn't get what i wanted at that time, so i settled for a ten dollar one. then heather and i went to the reifel bird sanctuary on westham island. i've wanted to go there for a couple of years but never did (once leif went without me). summer is actually the worst time of year to bird watch, spring and fall and even winter being better, i found after some research but oh well. i just wanted to check it out. heather was hungry so we stopped at the save on in ladner. i got icecream and she got a sandwich and some potato salad and some chips that we shared. (prior to leaving for the birding event i indulged in a donair) anyways, to get to westham island you have to cross a one way bridge like they have in terrace. and you travel by quaint and quiet farms and then there is the sanctuary (SANCTUARY!!!). we took a few minutes in the car to chow down the rest of the food, for me sticky pudding haagen daz ice cream (so good!). but already we could see flocks and flocks of ducks and geese. you can buy some seeds to feed the ducks with and some ducks get excited when they see you and come chasing after you but we didn't have any seed. heather felt bad about it. other ducks seem all paranoid like we're following them. we found an injured duck too, and told the people about it but they said they don't have any facilities to rescue birds and that they just let nature take it's course. it was sad because she was trying to walk but she couldn't and she was just sitting there (a sitting duck) in the middle of the path all vulnerable. so yeah anyways there were a lot of ducks and geese and some herons and the exciting thing to me is that they have a resident pair of SANDHILL CRANES which aren't even supposed to be in bc, but they are. there's all these beware of the sandhill cranes sign because they're really agressive when they're nesting but i found out that their baby had died shortly after it was born this year. the sanctuary is really big on an estuary and with fields and marshes and ponds and there are little huts for you to go in and watch the birds from slots so you don't bother them and we only had an hour so we didn't have much time to check it out but we are definately going back. the guy told me there are six different types of owls there during different times of the year which is exciting to me. a horned owl is there all year long. there's signs up listing all the birds spotted there that week and that year and so on.

i was babysitting for jordan and tracy at four so we left at two thirty, i drove heather home and then headed out to surrey. i had a fun time with maria who kept telling me i was her favourite aunt and jane was surprisingly not strange with me. at one point i was even making her laugh. maria and i played barbies, watched antz, and read stories. jane got into things. she would systematically head over the the dvds and always without fail starting with contact with jodi foster, would pull the off the shelf and deposit them on the ground. if she wasn't doing this she was opening the cupboard with seran wrap in it and pulling the roll of wrap out of the box etc.. meanwhile when i payed attention to jane maria talked louder, jumped up, acted out, did anything to retain my attention. jane ate voraciously. maria was all about the 'meat'. after a while though jane could not be put down or she would cry and i basically knew she was tired and it was time to for bed, so i put her jammies on her and maria put on hers and jane knew what was coming and began to cry but she stopped like before two minutes were up and so maria nad i read the rest of our stories and then jordan and tracy were home.

i borrowed saints and soldiers from them and coach carter. as i drove home a huge beautiful full moon was rising. i watched saints and soldiers when i got home and it was pretty good. it was weird to have that guy who's been in a lot of the church movies, usually comedies, like singles ward, best two years, etc be the english raf pilot. but on the whole it was pretty good.

this morning it was nice to take it easy and not worry about my lesson, write in my blog etc. the theme for sacrament meeting was efy which they had at ubc for the first time. suddenly during a quiet moment, heather exploded beside me with a loud sneeze, startling the milad children two pews in front of us who noticably jumped and then turned in curiosity to see what that noise was. heather and i couldn't stop laughing. i wrote down that sentance so i woulnd't forget to write it in my blog and showed it to heather which only made her laugh more. she tried to explain something like she was trying to 'transfer' it or some nonsense like that, but she couldn't even speak to tell me what she meant because she was trying to hold her laughs in.

julie visit taught us after church.

elicia and i and elicia's sister elena, went for a walk down by the river. we saw our heron friend.
