the judge said "son, what's your aaaalabi? if you were somewhere else then you don't have to die." i spoke not a word....

a full day. this morning i started writing in my scripture ponder book again after a three year absence. it felt good.

another thing i did: i watched stranger than fiction. what a surprise--i did like it. i liked it very much and it was deeper than i thought and funny and touching, and sweet and noble. i was moved and i like being moved.

(archie is trying to be cozy and content streched out beside me but the racket elicia is making with the juicer is disturbing his equalibrium. woops, there he goes--poor kid couldn't take it)

archie and izzy cuddled with me all morning. archie particularily was sooooo cute, in a perfect orange circle on my belly, streched out like a sphynx in the crease of my legs, adorning the curve of my hip when i was on my side and then curled in the crook of my bent legs. "archie, you're cute and i love you." i told him as he arranged himself in his last position. pets give you the freedom to love unabashedly.

and so: i had a lunch of chunky tomato soup with ryvita crackers and a fillet of cajun salmon. warm and satisfying.

what i did next: i lay on my stomach on my bed and did crossword puzzles and. i was feeling emotional and i was listening to "strings for the soul", an emotional cd--but so so so beautiful.

and then: i got ready for celtic fest down town. elicia and i both wore green tops and green eyeshadow. she had braids and i put my hair in two low buns with a little green barrette, my finishing touch. it was raining hard but i don't have a rain coat so i just put on my blue hoodie and as we stepped out in the rain i put my hood on and elicia put up her umbrella. "you're going to be soaked." she said to me. i shrugged.

we took the bus and it was crowded as usual. we didn't talk much except elicia told me about her dream in which she had her old cell phone. then i saw this guy from work on the bus. he came from the back and sat in the seats in front of me when some people left the bus. he isn't well. i don't know him well but i know his name and have seen him around, but not often. anyways i think he asked the girl across from him for some change, and then he talked loudly to this girl standing by the doors, but he didn't make a lot of sense. then he kept saying that they were blocking the path. they started to ignore him but move away from the door, and then he stood up by the door but kept moving closer and closer to them. i was waiting for when i was going to have to step in and say something to him, although i don't know what i would say, or if it would be effective, but at least i know who he is and that he's sick. but he got off. the girls sat down near the front and looked relieved and kind of laughed to each other. and it made me think about how differently people would have seen that situation. like to the girls a strange guy was being aggressive to them, and i saw that, but i also understood a little bit of where he was coming from and if his family or a friend was there, they'd see it even more differently.

celtic fest was ok. it was raining hard and the booths were soggy. but elicia bought a ring and i bought a celtic design pendant that was really cheap but pretty and good quality. the celtic jewelry was the most crowded booth. because everything was so good and so cheap. the ladies there were all dolled up in green and one had shamrocks springing from her headband. i took her picture. they said everything was so cheap because they were raising money for charity and didn't mark anything up. their charity was for irish wolf hounds (a very big dog, like waist high on me and probably breast high on heather). this stupid guy started being a total jerk to the ladies and asking if they like one kind of dogs over another does that make them racist. it's the stupidest thing ever, but he thought he was pretty clever and kept going at them over and over and over. they tried to be nice and laugh it off, but the jerk kept going. his friend was nice and tried to cover for him, but even he told him to lay off but he didn't. he totally ruined my shopping experience there. i kept trying to interrupt him by buying my pendant and asking the lady if i could take her picture, but he was not to be deterred in his bullying and badgering of the lovable ladies in green.

cory tries to bully us when lisa's not around. on thursday when she was in the thrift store he came into the kitchen uninvited during lunch, when no one was ordering the special, and so we were running out of everything else and kept pestering me and getting on me and on my case and needling me, and more annoying anytime i'd speak back to him, debbie would say "hey! be nice to cory!" "be quiet." i said to her with venom in my eye. and then he kept on and kept on. so i practically yelled "cory get out of here before i kill you!!!" and then he left forthwith. "i wish i was there but he wouldn't have done that when i was there." said lisa after i vented to her. "exactly." i said. i'm not always unflappable.

after purusing the celtic fest booths we went to roots where i saw a purse that i loved for only 198 dollars, but it was so nice. and elicia saw a hoodie she loved for only 74 dollars. a girl picked up on my longing for the purse by the way i was inspecting, fondling and sniffing it. so she modeled how to wear it. i had to turn away. why do nice leather purses have to cost so much? why can't the common girl have a nice purse too?

anyways we were actually on the way to rocky mountain chocolate because elicia wanted a treatsie. i was indifferent to the treatsie idea until i walked inside. then my greed began to grow. we both got some fudge. i got bittersweet and elicia got chocolate maple. additionally (says professor felicia lee), i purchased a thick square of caramel covered in chocolate (yummy!) and a hedgehog, and elicia got a tiger butter caramel apple. it was a relief to get out of that store because as usual it was unbearably congested. nowhere to be where there was no one else coming at you or around you. i ate my caramel in the free space under the awning while i waited for elicia to situate herself and her umbrella.

elicia wanted to go to hmv so we did. she bought four cds, two chantal kreviasak (sp?) and two beatles. i wanted to buy stuff too but i refused myself. i will live through elicia's purchases i told myself.

it was time to catch the bus so we walked down burrard to the bus stop by the sky train. we stood under the shelter and i took pictures of puddles and people and people's shadows and wished i was brave enough to take more people's pictures more openly because there were so many interesting people around. these two very scantily clad girls with their breasts barely in their tops asked elicia if she knew where this club was. they were going club crawling and all they knew was they took a bus that was going to richmond for three minutes and then they were to walk .25 km to the place but they didn't know the address. they were obvioulsy cold and didn't want to walk. "are you supposed to wear layers when you go on the bus?" "i dunno." they said to each other.

we sat at the back of the bus. i tried to take some more pictures of people on the sly, but it wasn't really what i wanted because i had to be sly. i wish i could talk to fred and ask him what he did. did he ask people or just click? did people get mad at him? did he have a method? his people pictures were so interesting. i wish i could have taken fred's class. i wish i could take any class. i don't have a clue what i'm doing. i never have.

at home: i had a bath. you may have noticed that i've become converted to baths. i almost went to lush to buy more bath stuff, but i told myself "no. you still have the body shop milk bubbles." since i was so firm, i listened. anyways this bath was nice. i languished in it and closed my eyes and sunk down low and later i read in my american poets book. and later i thought i was done and pushed the plug aside with my foot but got immersed in what i was reading again and so it happened that eventually i was reading poetry in my tub without water, and although i was faintly aware of the incongruance of this, it did not bother me all at once. but i became aware that i must change venues so i went to my room and read until i got to the walt whitman chapter. i read somewhat about him but started to get sleepy once i started reading his poems. he's not one i totally get. i want to. i want to like walt whitman but he's not what i expect. i do like this poem of his:

When I Heard the Learn'd Astronomer

When I heard the learn'd astronomer,
When the proofs, the figures, were ranged in columns before me,
When I was shown the charts and diagrams, to add, divide, and measure them,
When I sitting heard the astronomer where he lectured with much applause in the lecture-room,
How soon unaccountable I became tired and sick,
Till rising and gliding out I wander'd off by myself,
In the mystical moist night-air, and from time to time,
Look'd up in perfect silence at the stars.

i get that. and i like this one too:

A Noiseless Patient Spider

A noiseless patient spider,
I mark'd where on a little promontory it stood isolated,
Mark'd how to explore the vacant vast surrounding,
It launch'd forth filament, filament, filament, out if itself,
Ever unreeling them, ever tirelessly speeding them.
And you O my soul where you stand,
Surrounded, detached, in measureless oceans of space,
Ceaselessly musing, venturing, throwing, seeking the speheres to connect them,
Till the bridge you will need be form'd, till the ductile anchor hold,
Till the goassamer thread you fling catch somewhere,
O my soul.

ahhh, i wish i could share all the poems that i found today, that made me think, that i admire. but it would make this blog even longer than it is and i would be in danger of droning endlessly. but i will just name some and you can look them up if you are so inclined.
1. Design by Robert Frost
2. Variations on a Theme by William Carlos Williams by Kenneth Koch --it's funny. (if you read that one, you should read This Is Just to Say by William Carlos first)
3. Safe in their Alabaster Chambers by Emily Dickinson (i liked the 1859 version better than the 1861 well actually i like them both now that i reconsider)
4. What Lips My Lips Have Kissed, and Where and Why by Edna St. Vincent Millay ( i really like this one. i like the tree metaphor and "I only know that summer sang in me/A little while, that in me sings no more."

ok i'm going to stop because i don't know if anyone cares anyways, not that that matters as long as i care, i guess. on the way home from the bus elicia picked a twig of cherry blossoms off of a tree and i took a picture of her with it under her umbrella. she was attempting to draw it but just now she handed it to me to smell. i breathed it in with deep breaths. it was heavenly and so sweet. then she gave it to me suggesting i press it in my poetry book, but i had another idea and put in my tiny little vase and periodically i pick it up and smell it and it makes me happy. it has a burst of fluffy pink blossoms on the bottom and then a graceful arch of twig with tiny blooming buds along it.

at this rate katie will never catch up.
