karey and i were the second and third people on the ferry and we headed straight for the cafeteria. i was starving and the white spot bc burger (not bc for british columbia as some ferry travelers think, but bc for the less meaningful but practical bacon and cheese) fries and lemonade filled me right up. hit the spot if you will. we tried to eat fast so that we could eat AND get a good seat. karey's a tad faster than me, but i do my best and that's all anyone can ask.

our ferry ride was pretty uneventful. i did crosswords and karey read the second sisterhood of the travelling pants most of the trip. i like to see her all caught up in a book and wanting to read all the time. we did interrupt ourselves from time to time to watch the couple in front of us. this poor girl was with this super pierced guy who seemed like a jerk. he kept trying to get tickets for the greyhound bus and coming back and telling her the guy wasn't there and now it was too late, and then he'd leave and we heard an announcement saying you could get tickets now, and then he'd come back totally swearing and saying they wouldn't help him.... i think he finally got tickets and then he was leaving her again to go see some guy named chad and she finally got mad, so then he tried to be all lovey dovey to her and kiss her and stuff but she wasn't too receptive. this part was gross to watch and we averted our eyes. karey kept saying she felt sorry for the girl.

on the walk to the terminal from the ferry, karey kept trying to be the one in front. we'd both suddenly start speed walking but karey would shove me behind her or block the way. this compitition continued throughout the knight. i showed her and was the first one into the house but she pretended she didn't care by saying the compitition was over. we felt really grown up.

i was showing karey the back deck which she hasn't seen and this huge, round, tubby cat somehow made it over the gate and came trotting up to us. "what's that?!" we wondered. it was kitty. man has she gained the pounds! holy cow. she looks even bigger because cats to us right now means archie and izzy and they are so small that regular cats look huge, but no, kitty really is huge. we were talking to mom about it and mom agreed that she looks like a racoon in the dark. she admitted that she stopped feeding her the diet cat food. well it sure shows. kitty has gained quite a bit since i was here in may that's for sure.

after talking to mom for a bit we went over to katie's and on the way we were talking about how odd it feels to drive on the island because the roads are so free of cars. it feels a little bit deserted. katie and i decided to watch that hilary duff movie raise your voice, that we began watching last summer when her and brent came to visit and got the flat tire. karey didn't get much of a say because it was pretty much a given that she would fall asleep. actually she stayed awake surprisingly long, but in the end the movie was punctuated with her 'sleeping noises'. it was a cute movie. the loss of the brother part always made me a little weepy. hilary duff was such a cute girl.

we talked with katie for a while but i was so tired i was barely keeping upright, so we left with karey driving dad's car that katie was using while brent's out of town but she's letting us borrow it because she can't come with us to long beach anymore because saturday turned out to be not a good day because it's brent's first day back, which we feel is too bad but we also understand.

that whole paragraph is one long run on sentence. maybe you noticed. so i was all into sleeping on the cot on the deck, my favourite sleeping spot here, and mom was all into warning me about the mosquitos and i was all into shrugging it off but the truth is that this morning it was light out, i was hot and wanted to fling my limbs out of the covers but i was trying to keep them in because of the mosquitos and kitty warming up my feet which are very sensistive to heat, as you know, didn't help. and the struggle of it all and the clamminess i felt kept under the covers with a fat cat at my feet woke me up for good. but man am i still tired. i got up and tried to sleep on the couch but kitty followed me and positioned her considerable girth on my chest purring like a car with no muffler. i pet her for a long while and she was all blissed out. she has the prettiest face and her eyes are so expressive.

now we're supposed to be leaving but there's no sign of karey vw...
