ill-fated
yesterday was a better day at work, even though everyone was away except tanya and i and i had no one to work in the thrift store. i prayed for strength and energy and good attitude before i started my day, and i got them. i went around and recruited people to work in the thrift store, which we've had to do almost every day this week. people have been so great. i just come in with 'the look' on my face and they laugh and say "what do you need." it's nice when you need people and they're there for you.
i found this cool book in the thrift store called here's egg on your face! it's all about making home cosmetics with fresh ingredients. it's from the 70s and they way she writes is really funny, but there's some cool recipes in there i'd like to try. when i got home from work i lay down on the couch with the kitties and read it. soon i began to snooze it up.
karey's buzzing at the door woke us up. i helped her bring some of her stuff in and then we drove to the air care place so she could get air cared. i didn't know you had to get out of the car. there's this really annoying loud recording repeating itself over and over in the waiting room. it bugged because i was trying to ready my beauty formulas book. but her car didn't take that long and then we came back here and i went upstairs for my purse and said good bye to the kitkins and drove karey's car while she drove chere's downtown to chere's place so karey could drop it off there.
on the way i called 'tima and we had one of our word play conversations while deciding what to do. we finally decided to go see little miss sunshine and maybe have a bite to eat. meanwhile i was waiting in karey's car and i had to move twice because i was in people's spots. felt like a heel. when karey came back she was stressed because she was running behind time and that really gets under her skin and aggravates her. by this time i was trying to give fatima directionals to my house but this wasn't going so well. in the end we decided that she would have to look it up herself. meanwhile i had been starving since karey got here around four thirty.
i contented myself with my seventies beauty book. when fatima phoned that she was here it was getting dark. she hadn't come far enough down my road though and decided to go back to her car and move up even though i told her she wasn't that far away. she likes to keep her car close and i guess that's alright. so when she arrived in front of our house i called to her from the window. "welcome to the coachman."
the kitties were slumbering cutely on their scratching post when fatima came in. they got aquainted and fatima engaged them in some play with one of their toys. i had prepared a portfolio of local eating establishments which were available for our eating pleasure. she predictably picked the neighbourhood fish and chips place called King's Fare Fish and Chips. apparently this had been named by the georgia straght as the best place to eat battered fish. fatima is a sucker for the battered fish eatables. so we walked there. it was chilly so i tucked my arm inter her's so as to best benefit from the warmth of her sweater. we arrived at king's fare at about five to nine and stood waiting to be seated. nobody seemed to notice us but a girl coming in from serving somebody outside told us they closed five minutes ago. it didn't sink in to us that five minutes ago would have been around ten to nine and they closed at nine. whatever. we hate them we said to ourselves, but we really meant we were disappointed that we couldnt' eat there. it looked cozy and good. so we walked over to granvile and i was just about to introduce fatima to the donair spot, when she excitedly pointed out the mr. pickwick's. so of course that's where we had our fish and chips.
the fish and chips were surprisingly expensive for a place like mr. pickwicks. we sat outside under the billboard and could hear it swishing back and forth as it changed advertizements. we faced busy granville street and our view was the macdonald's express and the ups. we shared the parking lot with seven eleven. "romantic" fatima commented. it was pretty good fish and chips though. and the chips were better than some. fatima took a long time to eat as she is wont to do. i was the one stressing about time this time. it's either one or the other when we get together. i helped her out by eating some of her fries that had less pepper on them.
so we came back to pick up the car, the whole time talking about bad-chad from fatima's work and the goings on there, and when i turned on the car and it said 10:00 (but it was really 9:51) i knew we were going to be late. the movie started at tinsel town at 10:05. i hoped we would get there before the trailers ended.
surprisingly there was a line up when we finally got up there. we were almost up to the ticket booth when a tinsel town employee told the crowd that it was sold out. as our hearts were sinking (we were really excited to see it, and we just knew it would be good) a couple behind us were scornfull "oh no!" they said mockingly. "now we'll never get to see it." jerks. we were really disappointed. we walked dejectedly to the elevators. "now what are we going to do?" we wailed. we agreed that the whole night was a gong show. that became more true as we wasted 45 minutes looking for a movie at blockbusters but weren't happy with anything. we left empty handed. fatima suggested we get dessert somewhere. "what do you want?" i asked her. "gelato." she said. gelato. well the gelato places weren't open by that time. foiled again. so we stopped at safeway and looked for a ben and jerry's. the one fatima wanted looked totally freezer burnt and there was only one of them. we knew that this was just the way our night was meant to be, by this time. we settled on two half baked ben and jerry's that didn't look too badly freezer burnt. "i don't have a microwave to warm it up." i warned fatima. when i handed her a spoon she asked "is this a sturdy spoon? will it bend?" but it actually turned out ok. it was eatable and even good. we just sat and watched this dumb tv program with elicia for a while. then elicia got up to go to bed and fatima felt it was time to leave shortly after that. i hugged her at the door and said "thanks for spending this ill-fated night with me." and then watched her to her car from my window.
i put in my old version of sabrina with audrey hepburn and archie curled up with me and slept. izzy had followed her mom to bed. it was their first night apart and they seemed fine. i couldn't watch the whole movie through, i was too darn sleepy, so me and arch retired to the bedroom. he took some time to find a place he loved but eventually he slept against my back.
i woke up this morning to him clawing my arm. lovely cat. arch-enemy. i kicked him out and slept two more hours. elicia kicked izzy out of her room around the same time and the siblings were reunited. free to enjoy some naughty adventures together.
we were supposed to go swimming today but it doesn't look that nice out. i need to clean but i kind of want this place to clean itself if you know what i mean. meanwhile i hunger.
