i get knocked down, but i get up again, you never gonna keep me down!
i'm in my new home sitting at "red betty". red betty is gramma b's desk that i inherited. apparently red betty has been in the family for a while but i don't think that it was always called red betty, at least not openly. six years ago, i inherited gramma b's matress and box spring. i call it granny b. gramma b was a big supporter of spray paint. she spray painted her runners and she spray painted her chairs blue. red betty came complete with extra spray paint for the three blue betty-Gs. betty lives with me in the every day things. i need to visit betty.
there was a lovely wind breezing through the apartment making the metal blinds rattle and humm...
i like my new place. my new place is full of boxes and hardly anything is where it's supposed to be. i unpacked the kitchen on monday, and that made me feel largely better. we have a lot of cupboards and drawers. this is a novelty for us, especially when it comes to drawers. i have extra drawers if you can believe it. the kitchen has a window and that is just so great. last night karey and i worked on different projects. we put the tv on karey's hope chest, we set up karey's desk so we could pile lots of her boxes on it, we set up red betty and the computer and the internet and we put karey's bed on top of karey's many rubbermade totes. we stacked the totes two high so as to make more space in the living room. now karey's bed is soo high it looks like a bed fit for the princess and the pea (that's what we call heather) and karey needs a stool to climb on and off.
someone stole our storage locker and put a lock on it. elicia wrote them a note telling them to take it off. she put a smiley face on the note. i told her to say "take off your lock before we cut it off!" but she went a different route.
right now hector leon is talking to me on msn. he uses a lot of !!!!! and ????? marks. that's something lisa does too.
our move here was hot, sweaty, strenuous, a killer, exhausting, and many other things. i'm glad it's over, but at the same time i'm proud of all our bruises and the bonding we experienced in going through something hard together and making it. the worst for me, was carrying that stupid heavy bulky couch up the stairs of the appartment. it was the end of the long first day, and it was the last item in the van. me and scott were the doops who volunteered, and i mean volunteer in that we were the only ones not sitting on the grass huffing and puffing. it was so hard to get it around the corners and i was the one going backwards. this lady downstairs came to our rescue and got her husband to help us. he knew exactly what to do. i must have said thank you to them a million times. on saturday night after we were all finished and we had had some recuperation time we went to moxie's to celebrate. we spent most of the time compairing bruises. sarita pulled her pant leg up above garment line while we were waiting for a talbe at the front of the restaurant. karey said we must have climbed grouse grind at least twice.
one thing i learned during this move: there are a lot of hello-mister-handsomes at the dump of all places. sarita told me this but i didn't truly believe until i saw it for myself. who would have known?
my first night sleeping here was strange. i kept waking up. i kept looking out on the street to see what was going on. my old room looked out onto the back yard and alley. it was quiet except for crows. this room looks out onto the street and i can watch people coming and going.
i'm suddenly tired. i made blueberry muffins at work today. they were chalk full of blueberry. i put some dried ones in too, just for good measure. hark, i think elicia's home!
we need mats for the floor.
