hot hot heat

i woke up today at six thirty. i was already too hot. i got up and read my scrips on the semi-cool balcony. the kittens were awake and very frisky. poor karey was asleep, or trying to sleep on the couch during wild early morning play activities. now they've worn themselves out and are settling down for a cat nap. i can't stand being this hot. my feet are burning up and i feel like there's a furnace inside my chest.

yesterday when i got home archie was resting inside karey's shoe and izzy was on top of elicia's runners on the second shelf of shoes. then the blinds man greeted me. umm hello? i said. i didn't know he was coming. so he put vertical blinds on all our windows. i don't really like the verts for my bedroom. they don't let as much wind in the windows and they hang down too far. i think they give the room an office look.

yesterday karey and i were sweltering in the heat. we wanted to go swimming somewhere cold, so i suggested whytecliff. whytecliff is out by horseshoe bay and it gets deep fast so it's a lot colder than walking miles to get water up to your chest like at spanish banks and jericho and all of those places. and it's beautiful and more familyish. it's sandy rocky, and doesn't have much of a beach, lots of logs, but you can swim out to an island or jump off rocks if you're so inclined, which i never am. being in the air conditioned car for the half hour drive out there was a relief, but then when we started wading into the very cool waters we were already all cooled down. karey pointed out a couple who were wading in and said we had to beat them. well they weren't that hard to beat. they were still stalling waist level by the time karey and i were half way to the island. we hung out at a floating log for a while. karey found a nob she liked, and hung on. if you were brave enough to put your feet straight down, iciness greeted you. and so our mantra became "it's warmer near the surface." and we reminded ourselves of this from time to time. just as we were leaving there was a beautiful rosy sunset.

we saw the kittens' perky little faces and ears in the window when we got back. elicia was having a bonding time with them. we decided to watch divine secrets of the ya-ya sisterhood and izzy fell asleep on the window sill and them must have went to roll over or something because all we heard was this thud. she fell between the couch and the wall poor baby. leasha fished her out and she didn't seem that phased from the whole thing.

they slept out here with karey last night and i think i had a deeper sleep. too bad it's so hot. grrrr. speaking of grrrrrr, the babies need a scratching post badly. yesterday i sprayed archie twich with a spray bottle for scratching the furniture. boy did that freak him out.
