my vacation is almost over and i feel a little bit sad about that. it's been fun and full and relaxing too. just the way a vacation should be.
the progressive dinner: i had my doubts about pulling it off. i thought it might not work. i thought i might get too much grief about it. i thought people might be really late. but it was pretty good. actually not a bad event. bethany and i made mom really happy by volunteering to make the salad. we decided to make spinnach salad with goat cheese and red onion and bacon and cherry tomatoes. we were going to put mushrooms in too but we forget to buy them once we arrived at save-on. that could have been because we were goofing around and trying to walk faster than each other as we shopped. i seasoned and baked some chicken breasts to go on the salad and we picked out by process of elimination (there were quite a few we wanted to try) lighthouse honey dijon dressing. mom has this bag of real bacon bits you can get from costco. a marvelous invention and very handy.
dad started his shower about five minutes before we should have been leaving, causing mom anxiety. she was telling him he was going to make us all late. "i don't care." he said. she told him that he should care but he had already started the shower. so me and bethany took mom's car. the night started at katie and brent's who are the farthest flung in that direction. we were first to arrive. katie and brent had lemonade and humous, tzatziki and pita. very yummy. i had too much. and that right there is the major problem with progressive dinners. you eat too much at each place. you can't help but believe that this is your meal so fill up. surprisingly everyone but layne who we knew would be late showed up before it was time to leave to go to our house for salad.
bethany and i got there first to dish up the salads and place the sliced chicken breast on top of each one. bethany dished like a machine. everyone liked the salad even picky joe (katie and brent's friends joe and erin) and what's not to like about a yummy spinnach salad?
next we had spaghetti at dough and del's. i was already super full, but what can one do? one can have a small plate of spaghetti that's what. it was my first time inside their house. it's really nice. not a lot of furniture, but really nice. i also met their new puppy--a real cutie. we didn't stay there long though because dad was raring to go (there was no where for him to sit).
dessert was at evan and esther's. yummy icecream sandwhiches. it was my first time at ev's house too, so we got the tour. my favourite thing about his house is the big patio and yard. the thing i get the most enjoyment from is the drain that's raised above the floor of the shower. and my favourite feature was the purple tub. a real centre piece. bethany had to leave in a hurry shortly after we got there and i feel bad that i wasn't more helpful to her. sorry bethany. mom and dad left to take her home and didn't come back. the roses left at the same time. but we stayed and talked for quite a while. layne showed up at the dessert house. and we had some of their (the brother's) old jam sessions going.
not a bad night, not a bad night.
