skagit valley tulip festival 2006

there were lots of cool kites flying in the wind at tuliptown. i loved the look of them with their long dramatic tales flying above the green fields. when i first looked at them i thought "i want to fly a kite." i may even have said so, because i remember karey starting to sing "let's go fly a kite, up to the highest hight!..." but then i realized that it wasn't so much that i wanted to fly a kite but to be like a kite, graceful, buoyant, free and beautiful in a dramatic grey sky.

i was worried since this was the last week of the tulip festival that maybe there wouldn't be any more tulips. maybe all we would see was fields of dead, but happily there were rows and rows of beautiful tulips of all sorts. at each different kind we would gasp and point out the new kind of beauty we discovered with each tulip. i saw a man in the midst of the field of tulips waist high among them and i wanted that look in my picture. like i was wading through tulips. but when i got closer to where he was i saw he was kneeling. so i did what i had to do to be waist high in amongst my friends the tulips. thanks to the little man who showed me how. we had lots of fun and took pictures everywhere and then had some burgers inside a covered area. their curly fries were really extra long and limp straight fries that had be wound around each other. i had a salmon burger. i'm a sucker for those. after that we looked around the outlet malls a little and then got a nut bar at costco. karey and barb got theirs sans the nuts. the guy called them neuters. barb was the last one to go down to the second window for her nutbar. as karey and i walked away karey said to me "i think that guy just said "hi barb." to barb!" sure enough he had. he was a member in bellingham that she had met sometime or other. she's always meeting the male types of peoples. it had been spitting at tuliptown but when we emerged from costco we walked right into a down pour. we ate our ice cream sandwiches in the steamy car before leaving for home. a pretty good day for the third day of my 32nd year.

karey was all about the pink tulip picture. she was in a sea of them.
and barb was very serious about her tulip photography and often left us in persuit of the perfect tuplip picture

speaking of perfect tulip shots, this is karey's perfect tulip shot. i happen to like karey a lot.
