the rest

so i reluctantly got out of the chair-that-was-near and looked at myself in the bathroom mirror. "i'm ready." i said in a not so convinced but who cares kind of tone (if you can imagine what that is) to karey. "oh... you are?" she was disappointed. one of karey's secrets is that she likes to procrastinate getting ready by using the excuse that it takes me a long time to get ready, and to be fair sometimes i do. but sometimes i don't. i just do things in my own time. so anyways my readiness forced her into action. of course it wasn't until they were heading for the door that i decided to put on some clear gloss, but that was a minor hold up--an imperceptible one even.

the carnival was in surrey and we picked barbara ann on the way. we parked on the old familiar flat hill of a parking lot. ( just the parking lot brings back so much nostalgia of the teenage years.) we could tell that it wasn't a big turn out by the low volume of cars and it wasn't. the funnest (resist the urge to correct me for saying funnest) part was the maze. it was a maze put together with supreme effort of carting tables (they used 64 apparently, that is if nathan is to be believed, (i noticed him exaggerating on several instances throughout the evening) but i am apt to believe him in this instance) and so forth. it was pitch black and there were dead ends and things to crawl under and hidden people to scare you... it was a good time. we had to wait quite a while before being let in and our group was me and karey and tania and cyril of all people. they said they would seperate us in groups of two, but i told them firmly that we were going in a group of three and that cyril would be fine on his own. (he was too, he used the light from his watch, the little cheater) and they accepted my authority on the matter of our group. karey led at first and i held on to her purse strap so as not to lose her in the dark. tania meanwhile molded herself to my back and gave a constant pressure like that lady in line who keeps pushing you without really knowing it. i kept yelling at her to stop pushing me. she just laughed. at one point a guy jumped out and yelled and grabbed karey's ankle and she screamed. at other times we could hear somone following us and karey put her hand on a guy's head. we were lost in the hilarity of it all and probably sounded like big dorks, but who cares? you're in the dark in a maze and playing means you're not afraid of what people think of you, you're more interested in having fun. finally i saw the skeleton that signaled the door out and i ran to it and pushed crying "let us out!". then tania from behind pulls it open and we were in the hall again. we asked the missionaries who were helping to run it what our time was but they just said "you lost." thanks a lot budbuds. but nathan came behind them and told us that our time was eight minutes something. more of a helpful kind of chap. we then went in search of something else to do, and that was the problem with the carnival. the maze was the best part. we did get some caramel apples. i wanted caramel more than apple so i saw the pot full of caramel and took it as an opportunity. karey followed suit and we had apples with gobs of caramel on them. and they were good. it was really the big spoonful of caramel that we took alter that made us feel a little sick. gabby dislocated her jaw trying to bob for apples and karey half heartedly tryed while i held her hair back but she ended up spitting on them instead when she was trying not to laugh. so basically after barb got out of the maze we left. (she only would go after she was assured that there were no spiders. earlier in the night she had a moment where she seemed quite cruel. she said "get away from me big sean!" (a slow guy) and jumped up and ran across the room. but it turned out that he had been showing her a plastic spider ring. yes her spider tolerance is on the low side, like karey's snake tolerance)

our night at the carnival lasted one full hour. on the way out of surrey barb suggested watching the interpreter, but having watched two movies already that day combined with not being in to that particular movie instigated a no vote from me. karey was like minded, but we decided that we could play games. tania apparently didn't clue in to this conversation because when we stopped at barb's and we all got out she looked up in alarm and said "where are you going?!" we couldn't help but laugh a little bit, but when we explained our plans she wasn't too thrilled with her choices: take the bus home or wait. she waited but at first it was unhappily. we played rumoli which i find a little boring until we were all rumolied out. meanwhile fox and amy had arrived and we talked a while with them. fox was in fine form with his dumb pranks. i gave him a punch or two for a gross one perpetrated on me. then christel and nikki got home and we left soon after.
