hungry-hippopotamus-ness-miss

finally baked a salmon i've had in my freezer since early summer. i'm eating it right now. i'm doing this to alleviate my hippo-miss-ness. i don't enjoy being a hippo-misss although they are known as river horses, and horses are known to be gracefull, still the plain cold fact is, they just aren't the most attractive of beasts. no offence. i made a salmon pasta dish with a portion of my baked salmon. i just made it up on the spot. it's quite good. i mean i like it, and i'm the only one who counts in this case.
our home teachers just left. they're new. now we have jonathon and james. james is just 18 and from regina. he gave us an object lesson on testimonies using balloons. karey gave us all milk duds.
i've been listening to Elder Holland's talk a year ago at conference. it's called the grandeur of god. i love it. every time i listen to it, it fills me up and i think "i've got to remember this".
ok well it is now after eleven. i was just talking to ruth on the phone and catching up. when i first called she was just about to put the twins to bed and karelia said "hello laura" in this sweet high pitched voice into the receiver. i'm going to babysit for old time's sake in a couple of saturdays from now.
friday karey and i went on a little trip to seattle. we stopped at the outlet mall, eager to see what the gap discount store had in store for us, but we didn't get there until 8, and they closed at 8. i thought that this was basically a stoopid time to close. thinking this did me no good however, and we continued on our way. somewhere before aunt elaine's we stopped at karey's favourite store: target. i was reluctant, asking to stay in the car, but once inside it was a different story. i spent a lot of time in the sheet/duvet section. i found these cozy christmas flannel sheets that i wanted to get, and was all excited about, until i realized that they didn't have double bed size, only queen, king or twin. then i was sad. i found a few other sundry christmas present items. karey, who had begged and pleaded to come, was done way before me, but that's because she zooms through the store at high speed and i like to take my time and look at each thing individually. basically i don't want to miss something special that i might miss if i was too high speed like her. on our way out i had to check if my name was in the wedding registry as is tradition ever since we went to target with leif right after we first met him. and it turns out that i was getting married the next day to carl guenther. it's a good thing i checked. anyways we finally arrived at aunt elaine's a little after ten. it was our first time to her new place and we rang the door bell.... waited... knocked..... rang the door bell.....phoned her cell..... rang the doorbell..... knocked......rang the doorbell.....phoned again......rang repeatedly..... knocked with the keys on the window..... walked around the side.....phoned for the last time..... it was raining lightly and it was cold, and it seemed like she wasn't going to answer. we knew she was home because her truck was there and some lights were on. finally i told karey to throw pebbles at her window. so she did, but she could never reach the window. they just hit the roof and rolled off. after about four throws we suddenly saw a little grey curly head in the window. she had fallen asleep watching the italian job with her phone right beside her on the bed. it wasn't off or on mute or anything. she's just a heavy sleeper. so we had a quick tour, a nice chat and then to bed. the next day karey and i took a while to get ready. she started watching oceans 11 while i was in the shower, so when i got out i came to find her and found her on the floor in aunt elaine's room right in front of the tv, which meant i had to watch too, so basically we didn't get much done until after the movie was over. then we headed into downtown seattle. when we saw the space needle, i said "hey wanna go up it?" karey thought it would be too expensive. i said "if it's 11 dollars i would do it." she said "why did you pick 11 dollars?" i didn't know. it just sounded like a good limit. so we found parking (it was so weird, you had to fold up your dollar and stick it in a slot, like slot number 24 if your car was parked in the spot marked 24 and the directions said you should use your key to stuff it in all the way. ancient) and it turned out to only cost 13 dollars, so we did it. on the way up the elevator stopped at a floor where they were having a wedding to pick some people up. (karey pointed out that it could have very well been mine and carl's wedding) it was cool at the top. we took some pictures of each other on karey's digital camera and then we were trying to take one of us together, like you know those kinds where you just hold the camera out and take it yourself? well there were way too many nice people up there, because we had to do it a couple of times and every time we did it, people kept offering to take it for us and we had to explain that we wanted to do it the way we were doing it. we'd even try moving but in every new spot was a new do gooder. later when we made it down town i saw a touristie type horse drawn carriage and i said joking to karey "hey we should do that!" she replied "you are trying to make this trip too romanitc." which we had a good laugh about. the down town parking that we found was right beside a big theatre with a big pink sparkly sign that said SHOW GIRLS and had a very sultry woman's picture and two can-can type disembodied legs in fishnet stockings. it cost 12 dollars for three hours. what a rip eh? so first we went to pike's market to the little hole in the wall grill that i stumbled across a couple of years ago when we were there with slavica and the girls. i ordered a salmon sandwich and karey who had already gotten pizza or something was jealous and now we go back there every time we're downtown. it's really gooooood. and the same two guys are always working there. we were eavesdropping while one of the guys, the guy karey says has 'beautiful eyes', was talking to some other people and he said they make at least 20 bucks an hour there and was talking about all these magazines their place had been in. the other guy the blonde, quieter guy, took our order and for some reason i was all flustered and when i said we both wanted a salmon sandwich and he asked "you want one to share?" i said "no, we want two each." whaaaaat? i don't know what my problem was. i was all confused when he asked us another question later on. i didn't even dig him or anything. so after watching a few minutes for the fish guys to throw a couple, we went shopping for real.i didn't buy anything, but karey got some nikes at the discount nordstroms. the shoe floor was wierd there. there was only one shoe of each and you had to go the match window to get the pair. well this was our last store and we were tired. and nobody was at the window. i left karey there and wandered around for a while and came back and she was still there, and still no staff person at the window and a line up was forming. well enough was enough. i decided to take matters into my own hands. i cupped my hands around my mouth and "halooooooooo"-ed toward the back room. suddenly there was a guilty rustling and a worker came out. assertiveness is good at times. we stopped at elaine's on the way back and karen was there with jayme. she's very very cute. and that's all i have to say about our trip. cause i need to go to bed.
